At an autocross today for a real shakedown. Good news, oiling system is working flawlessly. No more lifter tick like i used to get previously.

Bad news is that my power steering is giving me issues. Worse than it was before. Not sure whats wrong given the only thing I changed was a brand new pump. Its whining and spitting fluid through the cap.

Ill do a fluid flush and remake a line and see what happens. After that I guess I'll be disassembling the whole system.

PS boiling? Have an IR thermometer? Can't remember if you run an actual PS cooler, the e36 trombone, or nothing.

I have a small cooler. Its simple. A loop with cooling fins. I sits in my bumper behind the speed holes. Same setup I've been using for literally years. Didnt give me trouble in years past. But something has been going wrong and getting worse in the past year. The pump was whining and getting louder. Which is why I replaced it.

The reservoir was so hot to the touch after an autox session that I could not touch it for more than .5s

What would be a good vs bad temp for power steering?

did you have any issues of it boiling over at auto-x on the old pump/cooler setup? I feel like auto-x is pretty short runs here and i've never had it boil over in that scenario.....

No, didnt have issues that I recall. Other than in the last year the pump whining and making noise with the wheel close to lock. And the hot fluid, and whining pump wasnt just an autox issue, its all the time.

I imagine if the pump is making more noise, it's also making more heat. Defective new pump? Roll the dice again, flush, fill?

That's what I suspect, and that's what I will do.

Additionally, I'll make a new high pressure line. When I originally made the line, I also transferred a restrictor that was in the OEM high pressure line. I am going to remove it.
