That's what I suspect, and that's what I will do.
Additionally, I'll make a new high pressure line. When I originally made the line, I also transferred a restrictor that was in the OEM high pressure line. I am going to remove it.

I imagine if the pump is making more noise, it's also making more heat. Defective new pump? Roll the dice again, flush, fill?Leave a comment:

No, didnt have issues that I recall. Other than in the last year the pump whining and making noise with the wheel close to lock. And the hot fluid, and whining pump wasnt just an autox issue, its all the time.

did you have any issues of it boiling over at auto-x on the old pump/cooler setup? I feel like auto-x is pretty short runs here and i've never had it boil over in that scenario.....Leave a comment:

I have a small cooler. Its simple. A loop with cooling fins. I sits in my bumper behind the speed holes. Same setup I've been using for literally years. Didnt give me trouble in years past. But something has been going wrong and getting worse in the past year. The pump was whining and getting louder. Which is why I replaced it.
The reservoir was so hot to the touch after an autox session that I could not touch it for more than .5s
What would be a good vs bad temp for power steering?

PS boiling? Have an IR thermometer? Can't remember if you run an actual PS cooler, the e36 trombone, or nothing.Leave a comment:

Thanks for scraping your splitter on my driveway today. Good to see the E30 out and aboutLeave a comment:

At an autocross today for a real shakedown. Good news, oiling system is working flawlessly. No more lifter tick like i used to get previously.
Bad news is that my power steering is giving me issues. Worse than it was before. Not sure whats wrong given the only thing I changed was a brand new pump. Its whining and spitting fluid through the cap.
Ill do a fluid flush and remake a line and see what happens. After that I guess I'll be disassembling the whole system.

There is a trick to doing it. Are you using a load leveler?
Since there is so much weight on the driver side (rhd car) you need to use a strap or something to pull up the engine to get it to line up on the pas side. I do this with the driver side arm off.
Once the pas side is all in i snug the nuts up and then work on getting the engine mount and arm in and aligned then slowly lower it via the engine crane.
Since all the weight is on the driver side it is easier for it to fall into place
Not sure if that makes sense or not?

I had this issue as well with my AKG's. L/R were identical iirc so it didn't matter if i swapped them around or flipped them at all - it's been a LONG time since i addressed this though. I ended up throwing some washers under it to raise the motor for header clearance and it sat pretty flat, but I was never happy with that. I have some solid aluminum AKG's for 24v to go in next time, but have been 2nd guessing going solid mounts for quite some time now. I think custom motor mount arms might be the solution I need to use these properly - or just buy the revshifts. Last time I checked the motor mounts have been taking all the abuse I've thrown at it over the years drifting, but its still not an excuse for fresh production mounts to have this issue 10 years later..I'll check back to see what they say to youLeave a comment:

I hear ya. No reason to believe there's any inherent imbalance with my rotating assembly. It was fully balanced years ago when I built the engine. Just figured "while I was in there" I would swap the mounts for something a touch softer and perhaps cut a bit of NVH.Leave a comment:

Interesting. Both my previous revshift mounts, and the condor mounts, both had offset bolt positions side to side, vs these AKG mounts are symmetrical. I seem to be fighting this difference. Though I did manage to get them sitting more flat with much wiggling when settling. Still doesn't seem right. Gonna leave it for now cause I planned to drive it this weekend. Will revisit and reach out to AKG.Leave a comment:

^^ That mount will tear in no time if left like that. No advice on why it fits like that, though.
How much NVH that comes from solid mounts is largely dependent on how well the flywheel and pressure plate are balanced, in my experience.Leave a comment:

Trans mounts are loose too?
The AKG mount isn't sitting flush on the crossmember. I had mine sitting flush then the arms wobbled in. I used a 2x4 under the oil pan to assist, made it a bit easier.Leave a comment:
