    It's a 74 911S, he's restoring it to look like a 1974 Carrera with a few personal changes.

I have the older style IE adjustable gear but took it off last time I had the head apart, I never really used it as intended and got spooked by a story of one slipping. It looks like they carry a better one now though... easy enough to change out in the future if I'm looking to tweak things. I was always under the impression the main advantage would be shifting the power band slightly, are there any other benefits? Going to grab a set of the 7131 plugs as well, hopefully by tomorrow. Thanks for the tip.

    Anyhow on to Day 2.

Started off with more head and block cleaning and reinstalling the head.

Changed the timing belt, got distracted and forgot to replace the water pump I have sitting on the bench... guess I'll do that tomorrow. Installed exhaust manifolds and cleaned more.

    Now onto the fun part

First problem is the hoses at the heater core. Apparently this is an old 80's recall, they installed a bypass valve to prevent overheating. Unfortunately it's completely in the way... need to section out the hoses or find new ones that aren't modified like this.

But with those temporarily removed I test fitted all 6 runners. Fitment was very tight against the firewall, pretty much no way to keep those nice harness covers with the airbox. I'd like to try stuffing the main rear harness behind/below the head (should have done it while it was off, hindsight 20/20) so that it sits almost on the bellhousing. Would need to lower the engine to make enough room to slip it down. I'm still debating it at this point, and I'm not even sure if that'll work as the harness is not very flexible and it may be too close to the exhaust down there.

Went one step further at the end of the night and loosely test fitted the airbox with the harness bracket removed. Still need to bend the dipstick out of the way so it can sit flush. Sadly it doesn't look like there's any chance a strut brace will fit over the box... at this point I'm not convinced the hood will even fit haha.

Tomorrow will involve reassembling the cooling system and ignition, installing the fuel rail and injectors, trying to sort out the heater core hoses and hopefully starting on the throttle linkage.

I think it depends on the type of strut brace. The box is notched for a bar

            Disappointing day 3 today.

Figured out pretty early on that reusing the cut up heater core hoses won't be good enough. I don't want a mess of clamps and joints bunched up at the back of the engine and space is already limited enough as it is. Ordered new, unmolested hoses that will HOPEFULLY early tomorrow morning, but it's Jan 30th and Friday so who knows. Unfortunately it's limiting the progress I can make on assembling the intake manifolds and throttle linkages as the more I put on, the harder it will be to access that area.

Finished assembling the timing covers and front, installed the rest of the coolant hoses, fixed my blower motor and played around a bit with placement and plumbing of the oil catch can.

Pulled the dipstick in closer to clear the air box:

More things attached to the engine:

I've blown my optimistic 3 day goal, still have a couple free days remaining but I'm realizing the little things are going to push the schedule out into the new year.

            Still on the list:

            - Finish cooling system
            - Install fuel rail
            - Figure out all of the vacuum lines
            - Install oil catch can
            - Install throttle linkage
            - Install air box and figure out a filter

Are you going to get this little monster dyno'd after it's done? I'd be super keen to see some numbers...

I'll be putting it together between Christmas and New Years, almost finished gathering the last bits and pieces I can think of before the holidays. I'll also be changing the camshaft out from a 272 to a 288 and swapping the IE rockers for MM ones. The plan is to complete the cam change and install the throttle bodies in ~3 days, then figure out the actual air filter situation afterwards. I'm going to keep the Miller MAF and WAR chip setup as opposed to an Alpha style tune using MS... guess we'll find out if it works haha.
That is a great looking set up I have thought about trying to knock together itb from a skyline RB26. Why did you go with rhd over kamotors?

                        KAMotors IS the RHD kit...

                            KA motors produces almost nothing.
Just sells stuff. Sometimes giving credit to the manufacture, sometimes not.

I just assumed he had fabed it. just looked at the site and it gives credit to rhd

Thanks guys. Day 4 was a success, less time than the previous days but got some important points knocked off.

Started off with the new coolant hoses. New one looks older haha, probably very old stock.

Then began working on the vacuum system. I'm using the instructions Rama has on his site and retaining the factory idle control valve and carbon canister. Assembled the vacuum block and installed fittings on the manifolds:

"Final" install of the manifolds with the fittings:

Installed the injector rail and harness:

Ran 8mm vacuum hose from each cylinder to the block. Used little 90° connectors to redirect the lines and keep things neat. The design is like a little easter egg tribute to the factory manifold design. :)

It looks kinda messy under there still because of the unplugged wires but it's actually cleaned up pretty nicely, I've been rerouting and shortening hoses when possible. Unfortunately my brake booster hose and check valve is not the style I need and I can't get a new one for a week or so. That part will have to wait sadly.

Last modification of the day was to once again cut the brand new heater core hose just a bit as fitment against the firewall is super tight and the factory hose interferes with cylinder 6 as seen in the photo above. Every bit counts!

Tomorrow might be a break day, but I'm so mentally involved with this now that I'll probably end up working on it again haha. I think I'm ready for the linkage now.
