PiercedE30. Congrats with your Tigers winning the BCS. An updates on this bad boy?

This was extremely hard for me to say considering I am from Columbus. I saw it coming before kick off. SEC is supreme!!!

On a stock M20 the top bolts of the gear box are a easy with this trick:
        1.remove driveshaft,
        2. loosen rear gearbox mounts
        3. Jack up on the front of the motor (to make it swivel as much as possible, the head will eventually touch the firewall, so no worries about anything falling out/breaking mounts)
        4. get 24-30" of extentions and get the top bolts from behind the gearbox under the car

        and voila :-)

        OP:
        awesome project

Ok, ok. Sorry that I haven't updated anything. I've got the intake/fuel rail/TB installed, it's definitely a tight fit. I've got the wiring 98% done. I have to put the ground straps on and put the big positive cables on the distribution block. I am going to be installing the oil temp gauge on Saturday when I get it and then I get to fill the motor with oil, also will be filling with coolant at the same time. I drained all the old gas out to make room for the 93 octane. I've got a good base map that I will be using to get it started and then I will be tweaking the fueling since I have 297cc (29 lb) injectors. Knock sensors are installed and ran into the glove box for the computer. I have to put the instrument cluster back in place, but before I do I have to run wires for the three gauges I have. I need to bleed the brakes. I am shooting to start the car on Saturday. I'm borrowing a laptop to monitor everything. I shall return to this thread shortly.

Awww, so much time spent making everything nice, neat and new and you go and use an old oil pump. Why? Rebuild = new oil pump, thats what Ive always heard and heeded.

As time went on, the factory developed the car each year, making it faster, more comfortable, and capable of handling at higher speeds.
You don’t want this. You want the trickiest, most dangerous, oldest model you can find. Only then can you prove to the world that you’re a man.

madjurgen: I opened it up and there was no play/whatever between the gears. I also cleaned it up and made sure there wasn't anything in there to gunk it up. I was VERY thorough. Also, if I was going to replace it, it would have been an upgraded pump, and I didn't have the cash for it.

Ok, I finished the wiring today. I just have to go back and make everything look cleaner tomorrow. I have wires everywhere right now. I went to start it but I am having issues with a few things that I am trying to work out at the moment, one of which is my starter. I bought a new one, but it doesn't want to engage properly for some reason. I am going to take a look at it tomorrow when I go back up to work.

Did you install the plate in between the engine and trans? And do you know if you put the transmission dowel pins back in? Only a handful of people seem to have had this problem but i chased down a starter alignment issue to those two things. I ended up slotting some holes in the belhousing to adjust my starter height because i had already pulled the transmission the day before.

I pulled the starter out, damn bitch. It looks like it was jamming up against the flywheel, I can see the marks. I hooked it up to a jumpbox and a battery. Both times it turns over VERY, VERY slowly. I'm going to have it tested and ask one of the mechanics that I work with about it.

EtaSport: I'm going to go and check the dowel pins as soon as I get done posting this. Yea, I installed the plate as well. When I go to engage it, it sounds like it hits the flywheel and just spins, it's a very sickening sound.

Also, I figured out what was going on with the ECU. Ended up being a corrupted tune. I reflashed with an older firmware and loaded my VE/AFR/Spark tables and it seems to work fine. I don't know what the deal was.
