So, the heater box cover is a little goofy, I didn't expect that he would butt weld the thin sheet metal, but its lap welded and pretty gnarly, so I'll be cleaning it up. Just take that into account for that picture. Going to cut away the useless lap of old sheet metal down to the weld, smooth out the weld some from the inside, and try to make the transition smoother on the outside from the surrounding metal over the weld bead.

I got the bar primed and painted gloss black, and the parcel shelf cover undercoated on the bottom side. I just checked it, and its been a while since I sprayed it, and its still sloppy wet so I won't be able to cover the top side tonight.

Some runs on the bar, but you wont be able to see half of them since they'll be covered in padding....kind of just a race against time since it was getting windy (making it difficult by itself) and the sun was setting.

On to the pics, most explain themselves -

    Brace yourself, its not pretty...

Definitely needs to be cleaned up...no biggie.

    Back home in the garage...

If you're wondering about the messy paint over spray, I'm not worried because on the interior I'm painting it one more time after cleaning it up and tack clothing it. Cover up some of the scratches put in it, and by then I can put the sound mat in over it. In the trunk, all of that paint is coming out anyway, so I'll be stripping everything but just up close to the plates themselves when I do the final paint. I enjoyed not having to care about over spray this time :)

As far as a piddly update goes, I dont recall mentioning that I did get my sound deadening material in, so that will be this weekend. I also repainted my front and rear subframe, and both front and rear arms. I need to weld a crack on the front sub then brace the driver side mounting area with some metal welded in place then I can begin to actually put the pieces together into sub assemblies. I will probably be able to get a fair amount of the sound mat down inside the car and hopefully weld on my subframe this weekend. I also am in the process of gathering a few new body panels too, a nose, rear panel and trunk floor. All I'll have left to source is two quarters, then basically lots and lots of bodywork, prepwork, undercoating, painting etc..and assembly. At least the abbreviated list gets shorter, but it will still take a while.

Just a little eye candy ... Officially mine now at least. I just don't have them yet. Still planning on doing at least some of that work this weekend, forgot Saturday is my brothers graduation from Berkeley. Rear panels primer is a little scraped up but that makes no difference to me.

That sounds like a lot of stress on that small of a motor. bigger motor means less stress to get the same power right? Reliability is an issue right?

Hey! Sorry guys, laziness is prevailing right now. Suspension wise, I'm ordering parts before I actually put the subframes together, and getting my rear hubs turned down to make use of my VW rotors and redrilled+tapped so I can use screw in wheel studs just like the front e21 hubs. As far as those go, I just bought a regular Vorshlag 60mm stud kit. I don't know if their cool black 75mm ones would still let me put my BBS RS caps on without spacers. Sound mat might get done tomorrow. I have some other things I need to do first before my car anyway.

So, update time. With what I have to update anyway.

Sound mat is mostly covering the floor of my 02 now finally. That shit takes forever to put down, especially over contours. Sorry no pics, camera took a dump before I could go in the garage for that. I'll have some when I'm actually done though. Just looks like the interior of my 02 is wearing a tinfoil in the back seat area and passenger front area right now.

Rear hubs are back! I had them sent out to get machined. I had them turned down to fit inside my ATE powerslot "front VW MK1 Rabbit" discs, also redrilled 45 degrees then tapped in order for me to use screw in studs just like our e30's. Mostly because the E21 front hubs are also the screw in type, and it's difficult to find a wide variety of lengths for aftermarket studs to press in. Most would require some sort of machine work to fit, by opening up the original studs hole size to press new ones in. No thanks. I'll make mine match kthx. Not bad price either to do the work, IMHO :) Vorshlag 60mm stud kit installed.

Also, my rear panel is up in Norcal now, waiting on whether or not the nose and trunk floor will be able to make it up in a week or two I think, or I'll have to make a "quick" trip to about an hour north of LA to grab em....
