Fvckk! This has been too long since I posted in this thread. Anyway, short update. I am looking for a good nose, good enough to put on my car with a straight skin so I can cut away the core support inside and build a mounting system for the radiator. I am waiting for pics of one actually right now that is about 20 minutes away.

FWIW, after seeing the doctor 02's xanga (ugh) project blog site (cool - www.xanga.com/thedoctor02) I decided I'd do one up myself too. Once photobucket recovers I think I'll convert most of this thread to www.xanga.com/norcal02 and the project will be kept track of there better. Of course I'll try to put stuff here as well but that's more of a condensed version, nothing else BUT my project there.

Also, by the way Ive had an idea kicking around in my head for the last week or two. Here's a teaser-

It's warm out, I'm motivated to do at least something, I don't work in the same shit hole that Ive been working at for the last 6 months for no $$ and near to literally full time in a PT position.... anyway I'm making more money working less. Shit will start happening.

Here's another micro update. So I was pulling out my clean air box for my heater box since it was wavy, and a piece of shit anyway. Completely useless to me as well since Im not putting my heater box back in. Huge leakage point for water and whatever else. I may just put some fans ducting to the defroster ducts under the windshield that I can turn on and off if I care enough to do so.

Heres a couple pictures. I knew what I'd find, rust at the seam where I removed the box along the fire wall, it's mostly sufrace rust. Any holes worked from the inside out for the most part from the heater box leakage down the inside of the firewall and trapped under tar that BMW ingeniously put below the box and above the tranny tunnel. A perfect spot to sandwich water seepage.

I already planned to cut from the transmission tunnel up to the heater box opening, but this really cemented it. I think it will be one piece from the top of the tunnel to the top of the opening under the windshield if I can get by with it. A friend of mine has a bead roller that I can roll some ridges into it to make it not so prone to oil canning, and make it a little more stock looking since on each side of the heater box there is a ridge.

Tomorrow or in the next couple of days my plan is to just clean the shit out of the paint in the engine dept, there's road crud EVERYWHERE and I'd like to see what it looks like clean. Besides that, its nicer working around clean stuff anyway. Everything will be painted when all of the bodywork is done too.

Crusty. New metal goes in :D

Well apparently that completely fell through with the nose that I was planning on picking up. I never got a reply back, so I'm back to square one with body panels. I think on Monday or Tuesday, whenever I don't work next on the week I'll call a couple places and ask if they have any cherry body panels for sale... What a slow, lazy process. I could just buy new, but I can't swing that for parts I'm just going to cut up anyway (all but the trunk floor and rear panel).

Justin B, awesome project man. One question, where did you get the fiberglass hood and trunk from? They look awesome! I wouldn't mind a set for my project '02. How much did they run?

I noticed the flares, bumpers etc you got from a guy I know who lives near my house lol. Those are good quality pieces too!

OK I've left this thread neglected long enough, but I need to put something down.

I built seat rails for it, but I need to weld in landing plates and do a little more cutting and grinding for them to fit properly. I'll get a shitload of sleep tonite and hopefully attack that project tomorrow.

Most of the time from "then" to now has been pretty dormant (mostly lack of ANY $ at all) except for some small projects here and there, gathering parts for my 3.2 stroker build (still need to send it to a machine shop but I don't have the cash yet).

I DID get the car in the garage, though! I made a dolly out of some swivelling wheels sourced from Harbor Freight, 4x4's, 2x4's, a bunch of lag bolts, and some strips of carpet wrapped over the top of the 4x4's to cushion the rocker panel lip. The dolly is about 15" high and the car is perfectly raised so that even with the suspension still on it, the wheels/tires are elevated off the ground a few inches :).

Pics tomorrow, but I wanted to basically force myself into working on the seat rails. Besides them already being mostly done, I'm sure some of you would be interested in some sort of update.

Yeah man. I gotta do something worth while. It's just too easy to get in a funk without any $, even when there are little things here and there that can be done with the million things/tools I've got laying around already. Baby steps. Maybe by the time all the small shit is done I'll have enough $ for new/good used body parts. I think the first thing I'll tackle there is the nose panel...

I nearly forgot I do have some pics from one of the several sub-projects I'm working on with this. It has to do with my fiberglass trunk lid and turbo spoiler.

And the real bitch work of it. It's about 95% done, a little more smoothing and filling in little pock mark holes in it-

Probably more than I needed to get the point across, but pictures are fun. Thought ya might like that lil bit of work. I haven't been doing nothing...
