      He probably meant crank.

So the knife edge would be a waste, eh? Good to know, I don't want to spend money where it isn't needed. Should I still do the crank scraper?

the crank scraper isn't a bad idea (mostly for the oil baffles) - but yeah, there isn't much benefit to knife edging on a street motor that will never see over 7000rpm.

Excellent, thanks nando. That's why I started this thread, I need all the info I can get! I've been reading the M20 forum like mad, but there's so much confliciting info, and so many engines that are similar but not the same, so I'll be asking lots of questions both here and there.

Crank scraper a good idea if you are going to track it. Prob not a bad idea even if you do the parking lot cone chasing.

Oil starved bearings do bad things. Ask me how I know . . . .

Any plans to bore it out and make it more than 2.7?

This car will see regular auto-x duty from now on, along with track days in the future, so that's why the scraper is on the list.

Not at the present, mainly because I'll be building this engine on a budget. But who knows what will come later. I still want to do a 24V someday.

A 24v e30 is something truly amazing, but while I have the satisfaction of building my car, YOU will have the satisfaction of building your MOTOR in the CAR YOU built. One day I will have that I imagine but for now I will live vicariously through you.

just contact Kevin @ Ishihara-Johnson and let him know what block and crank you are using - he can whip it up for you. I had to do a little bit of massaging on some of the bolt holes and a couple of the fins with a rasp on an air grinder, - took about 15 minutes of work.

He makes a nice piece. Includes good instructions on how to "dry mount" it and test for clearance.

+1 on crank scraper, even if you don't autox it seems that m10 and m20 engines suffer from oil starvation during long right hand turns.

-1 on knife edge crank, unless you plan to rev high, not necessary.

Yeah, yeah, I'm not there yet dude. Give it some time, aight? Gotta give my wallet time to recover from the swap and the IX purchase, and then maybe I'll start looking for a belt-powered snail for my new powerplant...
