Finally got the engine-

I'm very excited for this project...
I'm going to buy an identical trans to the one in the truck now so I can do the adapter plate/clutch/starter setup before taking the truck out of commission.Comment

E30 is looking great!
Do they make swap mount for the 617? Why not a 603 swap?Comment
-
Thanks!
The e39 overheated the other night and I've been daily driving the e30 until I fix it... No complaints
That is a great engine, but around me they're expensive and hard to find.. I would also be ripping tires with a 603 lol
I got the 617 for 350 bucks which is a deal since the pumps on those go for that or more!d

I had a mk1 Jetta coupe that I swapped like 4 times. The 1.6TD was the most fun, until I blew it up.

Been enjoying the truck this summer as I piece together the engine and source a new transmission.
Currently looking for a NA intake manifold- which makes the holset turbo upgrade a lot easier to do. It's basically plug and play. Definitely going to add an intercooler to the setup and do an egr delete..
All of this is an effort to keep EGT lower. The power this think will gain from any of this will be minimal, but should stand the test of time with lower running temps.
For the transmission, I'm going with the M50d-2 from an F150.
The current trans bell housing is too small to cover the flywheel.
Recently, I added a camper shell to keep all of my shit protected and have piece of mind when we stop for food on a long drive.
The added weight on the rear suspension really helped with ride quality, but I am going to life the rear just a bit to regain the lost "flare."
Some pics...

Just got some style 42s for the e39.. Best wheel option for non-Ms.
Going to lower the car too this coming week or two.... But that's never enough right?? So, I'm on the hunt for an m54b30 to swap.. Might be the easiest swap to do... All plug and play minus the firmware update for the b30. With the short gears that came with the b25s, it's going to be lighting up some tires with the b30.

After I lower the car and get some spacers, the car is going to be looking reaaaaal good.
I'm thoroughly enjoying the manual e39Comment

Sitting at a much better height now.

Went with B8s and H&R sports.

Got some spacers too, but I'm an idiot and forgot that e39 hubs are a little bigger than the standard 72.xx
I have to turn those on the lathe and get some adapters for the center bore to the wheel.

Yeah it does. It looks way better now.
The wheels were a little to tucked for my liking, so I added some spacers all around. 15mm rear 20mm front
looks waay better.

That concludes another boring update.Comment

Took the Ranger to southern Utah over New Years for some Zion action and some wheeling.
We stayed in Apple Valley, which is a little South of Zion and a bit higher up in elevation. There was a lot of snow, and a LOT of mud.
I've heard about the mud in southern Utah before, on Matt's Off Road Recovery, the youtube channel and heard how rough it can be..
I actually saw him pulling the Banana, his yellow wrangler at the gas station before we took off to hit some local trails.
Anyways, my friend took his stock Tacoma OR and we went for it.
I'm surprised I did not get stuck in the Ranger going down one of the trails. It was deep, rutted mud pits, but the truck managed to get through it to my surprise.
Had a lot of fun and will def go back when it's not plagued with mud.
Got one more trip planned in the truck and then it's time to rip out the reliable Lima.

What a great view from the balcony. I wish I could get lost there for a few days.
2WD no problem, you have a lsd in the ranger or is it just 1WD?Comment

yeah I have a rear end from a 2004 FX4 which has an LSD.
That alongside some decent tires have gotten me everywhere I’ve tried to go so far.
