Decided to go with a Wrangler this time. The exceptionally long wheelbase of the Gladiator was really felt on the trails. Lots of scraping and sliding. Def needed a 2 inch lift and 35s.
Also the 8speed is a ticking time bomb.
Ended up with a 25 Wrangler Rubicon X 6 speed manual

Plot twist, the cops stole it. At least around me all those guys have a massive hard on for Jeeps.

I still don't understand.
lol
I totally get the Jeep thing now- well kinda.
It's hard to put into words, which I guess could be part of the reason I say, "kinda."
It's just a very quirky vehicle. Especially with the manual. They're just fun to drive, man. Driving thru a national park or whatever with the roof off is simply just a cool experience.
If you're into off-roading. For the money, new at least- it's hard to beat what you get at that price point. Front and rear locker and sway bar disconnect, 33s, steel skids, sliders, front trail cam and two solid Dana 44s.
If you we're looking into a Toyota, that would be the TRD pro I believe and you're going to spend a lot more money for a truck with CV axles. Which are a weak point if you're using the truck as god intended.
Also I'm pretty sure this and the nissan frontier are the last two mid sized trucks with an NA v6 option. And I ain't spending 50k on a nissan frontier lol.
You know what's fun, flying past Jeeps on a trail on a dirtbike that I can put in the back of my 2wd Colorado, which I think with a locker could hang pretty well on trails considering how I am a fairly crazy driver.
IMO, the Jeep poser scene is very annoying, and would be a sufficient reason to not buy one, or any off road type truck for that matter.
Yeah a dirt bike is faster on a trail, but that's a whole different activity.
I like to be out in the mountains for days at a time, fishing and being comfortable. Can't do that with a dirt bike.
I definitely exceeded the capabilities of my 2wd ranger with an LSD quickly. 2WD is good for fire roads, which is not even off roading.
There are cringe posers in every scene, especially the motorcycle and sports car scene.
A 1 wheel drive chevy would need to get yanked the whole way on the trails I do.
Yeah some of the jeep community shit is gay but whatever. I bought this thing to do shit with it so what the next person does with theirs does not concern me.
