I remember that thread vividly. The attention to detail and resources available to make that thing just absolutely perfect was mind blowing to my brain. It was beautiful. My previous build (currently E30-less)

Still here after all these years. Not sure I qualify as a legend, but I like to think that I contributed some unique technical knowledge and projects. “Over-engineered nonsense!”
The olden days were sure something here. It was as much the activity and personalities on here as it was the fact that I was about 2 decades younger that makes me remember stuff so fondly.Comment

Sadly a lot of enthusiasts have been priced out of... well, being enthusiasts. I haven't driven for fun in over 10 years. My last enjoyable car was sold to help buy a house. Never drove it for anything but to and from work. (Just bought my first house at 39 years old lol).
Now I just have a commuter and a project 2002 that will probably never be finished, and will probably be too expensive to drive. I lurk around for nostalgia all the time, but that's all I can afford right now.Comment

That '99 Civic Hatchback I bought for $500, drove & fixed, and then sold for $2k is now selling for $10k. 😵💫

If I was 35 back in the 00's I would be buying and selling E30's, E36's E46's, MR2's, 190E's, 924's, 928's, S2000's, STI's, Evo 9's, etc. (the list goes on and on) on a revolving 4-6 month basis, just to experience them all.
Alas, I appear to have missed the window. I will never forget the '88 E30 M3 that a friend just couldn't get sold for the outrageous price of $8 thousand fucking dollars. Oof.My previous build (currently E30-less)

Was looking at importing one from japan 10ish years ago, and would have needed a small loan to make it happen.
If I was working a few years sooner I would have had that money.
Didn't want to go into debt for a car, but now I'm kicking myself as they change hands for crazy money.
Guess you can't win them all.
Should count my blessings though, I lucked out on my E36 M3 last year when I was sure I was priced out of the market.

Money is the main reason I won't sell the E30 despite it not running in years. Hanging on to what I've hoarded because I won't be able to get back into an E30 later.
This will be the year it moves under its own power though! (Because it's blocking in a truck i need to sell.)Comment

I'm only a legend in my mind but I have been here a while.
Currently being ignored in my Z3 build thread.

I've definitely said it before, but when cars were cheap and plentiful, I was a teenager with no money whatsoever (03-07 timeframe), and now that I am older, with just a bit more money, everything is simply wayyyy too expensive.

Anyone remember the thread on taking an old drill press and converting it to a variable speed with some custom controller? That was wildly over the top and really cool.
Damn, you still get on here?!?sigpic
