if we had to invade somewhere, i wish it had been iran.

regime change is more "needed" there, and they are a lot closer to having WMDs than saddam was.

i'll never be able to understand why the previous secretary of defense didn't just say "look W, this crush-between-the-pincers move you're planning from iraq and afghanistan a few years down the road is a waste of resources, lives, and money. if you want to go to iran, let's just go there."

The main problem is that Iran is the most powerful country in the region, with the exception of Pakistan and India who have nukes and large militaries. Fuel prices would sky rocket with the Persian Gulf, the most important petroleum transportation route, being in effect a war zone. Iran is a much larger nation that both Afghanistan and Iraq population wise. I am not saying that they could win against us, but it would be a hell of a war, much like the Falklands.

While yeah it effective after you get enough men killed the other side is outta ammo, you can over run and beat them to death with the koran.

The Irianias are how ever just as crazy as a shit house rat, and given the proper weapon they would not hesitate to use it, as they figure all the casualties of a counter attack would die in the name of Alaha anyway and go the eternal paradise. To them its a win/win for take out the evil jews.

Well. Actually, I have never understood the reasonning. India and Pakistan are both countries wanting to annihilate each other. Fucking extremists and terrorists in both countries. And they both have some nuke power.

Israel also has some nuke warheads and it is another extremist country loaded with destructive weaponnery. Not to mention it is a pretty antagonistic country.

I really have no support for the current government, but I'm gonna stop saying things against them. Yeah, it'd be cool to see another revolution, but this whole 'green' thing is going to lead people no where. They're gonna keep on getting shot, beat up, killed, and thrown in prison for their non-violent protesting.

I actually kinda wanna visit Iran...doubt I'd get into the country for the next 6 months or so...with all that's going on.

are you saying that we should let Iran have nukes? does that really sound like a good idea? I thought it was agreed that additional nuclear arsenals was not the right direction to go.

It's not like there's a list, where somebody decides "okay, you can develop nukes now". Those countries pretty much arrived there on their own. The idea is to keep additional weapons from being created, especially by obviously hostile nations.

any of us who remember the 80's know what it was like to be afraid of a nuclear war. That threat hasn't disappeared but at least there's been an effort to stop the proliferation of nuclear weapons. of course that's not "fair" to the countries that didn't already have them, but wouldn't you agree that it's better overall for mankind if we at least stop at what's already been created?

of course the best thing that could happen would be to have all nukes destroyed and their fuel recycled to be used for power generation, but that's about as likely as world peace and lucky charms coming out my ass. ;)

BTW Iran is not an arab country, and Iranians are far from being Arabs. Iran is in Persia, and Iranians are Persians. Very different ethnicity. The same Lebanon was a very highly sophisticated contry (still is) with very high European-like standards, so is Iran.

The perception on this North American continent that anything outside is third world level can sometimes be pretty sad.

we had to watch some films by iranian filmmakers in one of my classes. They're probably better developed than a lot of mexico (which is a shit hole for the most part) but I wouldn't put it on par with the US or most of europe. Their government really does a great job of dehumanizing it's citizens which helps portray them as a bunch of crazed islamic extremists though, and that's sad.
