This is always the last resort when liberals can't grasp the concepts or reasoning behind how us liberty-loving folks think, to put a label on us such as 'far-right-wingers'. As if you're in the center in your Left-Right political spectrum? Thank god that's not true! My political spectrum is not Left-Right anyhow, but rather Tyranny-Liberty. Those who espouse the virtues of the Left-Right game are simply playing these 'sides' off each other while both parties are shifting power from the people to the government. How can you not see this?

Liberalism (Obama) and tyranny (Bush) have taken a beating the last two years, and now that we've got momentum we're going to try to keep up the pressure in the move to reclaim our liberty. Think I'm just surrounding myself with people who think like me? You might find these polls interesting.

http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/52602 - This is a self-proclaimed 'right' site, but the facts are accurate, and you can verify them elsewhere (don't expect to hear about it on NPR or CNN though).

If what people who thought like you predicted correctly, the country hated Bush so much that it was going to shift hard to the left (I've heard you say this). However, that's not happening either. Unlike you, I can and do hold both parties responsible for their part in grabbing power from the people. Now we see they don't like Obama either. What does all this mean? Here's a thought: it could be that the people are tired of this huge government growing bigger, costlier, and more powerful with each passing election. As long as this country is heading toward tyranny is doesn't matter who's behind the wheel. Many of the people who called themselves Liberals who protested Bush are finding that their views coincide with mine.

Liberty has endured in this country for 200 years despite constant attack from those who wish to shift the balance of power from the many to the few. Only now is this country starting to wake up and realize the path we've been on.

So technically you have a right to weapons there for you could all just go and buy some rocket lunches, or grinade's what ever the hell you want.

Yes, the idea of the 2nd Amendment is to allow private citizens to posses whatever the federal government can have. 2nd Amendment proponents have different views as to how that would apply with the higher end weapons of today, such as weapons of mass destruction. It's not a far reach of the mind to think that eventually a musket or similar arm would be able to fire a large number of bullets very quickly and in rapid succession, nor conventional bombs with the power to destroy buildings. Nuclear and chemical weapons that can take out entire cities and hundreds of thousands of people are a different story in my opinion.

Back in the day when the constitution was written private people owned large sailing ships with cannons equivalent to a warship of that era.

                If you have the cash......

About the only place I'd draw the line is nuclear and biological weapons just because of lack of discrimination while in use.

I also completely agree with what you said about how young kids should be taught about the power a gun has and how to use them responsibly.
my point of posting this was to show an example that, no matter where you are, things can happen. in a nice neighborhood or in a seedy part of town.

i have only pointed my gun or the other persons gun (i took it away from them when i was bouncing after they tried to shoot myself and the owner of the bar) at them on 5 different occasions and only then as a defensive last resort, yet i have never shot anyone. i would be happy to go through my life never shooting anyone, but would if the need to defend my life (with no other options) required me to do so. i am also well versed in the legal ramifications of doing so. i feel if you are not willing to kill someone in self defence, you should not own a gun for self defence.

i have no problems dealing with stressful situations and maintaining a clear head while in them, which is a big help also.

and now back to the debate.........

In the state of arizona you dont have to register any of your guns. All the guns I have the goverment doesnt know about and wont know about because I dont have to register them.

I don't feel like reading most of the crap that's in this thread because it's pointless. I don't have a problem with guns, but I have a problem with the, "there can never be any restrictions on gun ownership, ever" position. It's just stupid. The laws and restrictions that are in place are there because that's what people want. In more rural areas, the laws are typically more lax, and in urban areas they are more restrictive. Yeah, some areas will revise their laws to fit with their population's needs, but overall, things are not going to change that much.

Overall, people don't want to live in a world where a bunch of tweakers are walking through the mall with automatic weapons. Society will create laws to keep this from happening. The idea that there is nothing society can do to regulate this is annoying.

Please feel free to go on for twelve more pages about the Constitution and your rights. I'm not going to read it.

In refernece to your previous post about accountability, if you own a gun and it's used illegally, even if it's by someone else, you bet your ass the cops are gonna have a nice chat with you about it. Someone stole you gun and you didn't report it? Fat chance you get out with that line.

There is a good amount of accountability already in the US system. Some states are more attenative about records and registration and licenscing, some are less. We don't live in the Wild West, with gunfights at noon.

Personally, I'm happy with gun laws as they sit (No Brady Bill) but it could be more consciencious of the mental health history (medications, hospitilizations, etc) of the purchaser.

Well those are the two roles, right? Everyone in the country is either a gun-toting redneck or a pot smoking hippie. At least last time I checked.
