I live in a country where we are trying to win BACK our gun rights, (and by all accounts may have just won the first round in abolishing our long-gun registry) and fuck-tards like Zimmerman will be the poster boy's for the Anti's claiming that law abiding Canadians don't have enough brains to have Firearms, much less a right to carry them (technically we can carry long guns, but try it in a metropolitan area, I fucking DARE you...). and if they win a few more rounds, then Canadian gun owners will be no better off than Australian or British gun owners who rolled over and let the state emasculate them.

I feel that everyone should have the right to self defense, but maybe you should be at least mentally fit, and have a safe carry course before being issued a carry permit...at the least.

this was a distinct violation of the spirit imho of the "stand your ground " law and in no way will this help with the movement to gain any momentum in other juristictions.

Thought I would bump this before the pictures thread gets out of control, and also cos I want to know what you guys think would have happening if Zimmerman did not have a gun.

I don't believe that guns need to be band all together, but I think better education on "protecting ones self" is needed. Obviously Zimmerman felt thretened, but could have resovled this in a better way then carring a gun.

Zimmerman possibly would have been stabbed to death by the screw driver in trayvons backpack? ;)

Zimmerman was instructed to stay in his car. Peroid. Look at it like this. A police officer sees someone who looks suspicious walking in his zone. He calls his shift commander and his shift commander says, dont engage until I get there. If that officer gets out of his vehicle and engages that person and shoots that person who later dies after he has been instructed to stand down. That officer is in trouble. His instructions were to not engage. Same thing in the army. Do not engage means no verbal contact, no physical contact peroid. No matter what that person "looks" like.

The screw driver in TM backback was not on in his posession at the time of the shooting.

As a former military man, I respect the right to own guns. But to carry an assualt rifle around in public crosses the line for me.

Mr Zimmerman described TM as "up to no good" just by his appearance. He would never have approached TM if he was not carrying a weapon. Guns make psychotic people feel empowered. Carrying a gun for some people is like a drug. Neighborhood watch means to WATCH.

At the time of the shooting, Mr Zimmerman had no idea of TM's background. He was instucted to stay in his car. None of us would be having this debate if he had stayed in his car.

With me it is not about race, appearance, sexual preference, time of day, time of night, height, weight, republican, democrat, tea bag, whatever. These are all excuses for bullshit. I am an American. And I judge things on whats best for my city, county, state and my country. If TM was white. I would feel the same way. WE DO NOT NEED YOU FOLLOWING HIM. Peroid.

And for the record, let me attempt to clear up this "race card" issue. Black is a color of skin. Not a race. Jewish is a religion not a skin color. Muslim is not a skin color it is a religion, Catholic is not a skin color it is a religion. Mr Zimmerman said he saw someone "black". Black what?? @grahamsy2k. Nice. But when the right to bear arms was written, there were no AR-15's. If any of us felt the need, we all would consider would carrying an AR. The fact is, there is no need to carry an AR in public in this country. No reason what so ever. The issue i was making has nothing to do with gun ownership. It had everything to do with staying in your car as you were instructed to do.
