Grado SR-125's here, powered by a CMOY... upgraded from a pair of Sony MDR's back in the day, I find myself actually listening to music with headphones less and less...

Hey guys, can someone point me towards a good set of on/over ear headphones between $120-150? I'm looking to get my brother a good set of headphones before he gets deployed this coming January. He likes old school rap/dubstep type shit, so I figure some good bass is important.

I've had Beats and they basically suck, mine broke 2 months into ownership...

I really like my Sony MDR 7506s, they're in your price range and are pretty awesome for the price. Decent ambient noise insulation (~5dB or so), rugged and unkillable (maybe not in combat), very good sound, decent bass...

          great all around headphone.

Very similar model is the MDR-V6. No personal experience, but they're cheaper. Dunno how they last, but my 7506s have been going strong for nearly 10 years of daily use without issue.

^ The v6's are identical except for the plug, where the 7506 have gold plated. My V6's have stood up fine so far (over a year) of being used everywhere and jammed into a backpack. The included bag is nice, fits my headphones, ipod and charging cable into a nice pouch that protects them from surface scratches.

These provide great bass and isolation, especially hooked up to my HeadRoom Total Bithead amp.

It's the setup I use at work since I've been too lazy/cheap to replace my Grado's.

Sennheiser HD 212 Pro. Great for electronic music or rap, they are really good down low and have decent treble/mid. They are pretty comfortable, in the right position you can wear them for multiple hours. I paid 70$ for mine, if they break I'll definitely be buying them again.

The best part is the detachable cable from the headphones, You never have to worry about tripping over the cable(which is FUCKING long) and ripping the cable. Sennheiser sells replacement cables as well, although you might want to look into a shorter cable.

So I've upgraded from Grado SR-80 to Audio Technica ATH-A700. They're super comfortable, good isolation, good sound. Best part, I got them used on ebay for 35 bucks and paid 25 for replacement pads.

You can get the Audio Technica M50 for under $100. I love mine. Amazon has a bunch of reviews...

If you buy them, buy from ProAudioMart on ebay. They are an authorized dealer, so you get a 1 year warranty with them. I think they accept any offer over $90.
