50mm f1.8 on a Canon 450d, it's hard not to like this lens for the money

Quite a bit... lots of playing around with layers, curves, levels, multiple exposures. These all started with the lighting as you see it though, just enhanced to what I envisioned when I was there.

Thanks. The light was awesome in number 2 (Yellowstone park at sunset) and I used multiple exposures and masks to pull it all together.

I disagree if the lighting gets tricky at all or subject distance increases. Slow focus, horrible fringing, weird bokeh... Try the 85 1.8 and you'll see the difference. :p

This is why I don't play with the L primes... I don't want to see why the 1.8's aren't perfect haha

Your just being picky :p That 80mm f1.8 lens is nearly 4x more expensive.

What camera do you guys recommend for a beginner? I want to get into photography. I was looking at the Nikon D3200 does anybody have any good personal experience with that camera?

What are you going to be using it for and whats your budget. Lots of options out there.

My advise Used little older body and best glass you can swing, its not the Mega Pixel count that makes great images its the glass and the user.

Dont over look the new mirrorless stuff out there.............................. Olympus Panasonic and Sony all have some great little rigs out there, and the M4/3 format from Oly/Pan have some amazing prime glass to go with them, just no supper fast zooms yet.

Damn, I just spent the last few hours going through this whole thread rather than sleeping, feeling nearly inspired at this point. Might grab the car/camera and go sun-rise hunting(in the rain...ha).

Just in keeping though; these are both kinda old and not my best, but I wanted to contribute something.

Sonoma Drift last summer, random and no tripod, but I thought it was cool at the time:

I want one to take pictures of cars, nature and use it when I go skate. My budget is like 5 bills. I was interested in that nikon one because It got pretty good reviews and they said it was a good beginner camera, but idk. And the body size looks perfect to me.

Are you set on a interchangeable lens's.

If you going to be taking it skating, would the size of a standard DSLR be a bit trouble some.

Nikon stuff is great, I am a canon and olympus guy though. 5 bills is just the tip of the iceberg, yeah it will put you into a basic lower end kit. But your going to find quickly your going to need a lot more shit than just a body and the basic kit lens or 2. Not to mention with slow kit glass and with the sensor in the D3200 your low light performance is going to be shit, while its a High Mega Pixel sensor when you push your sensitivity up to ISO 1200 and up it gets noisy very fast. You will likely end up being discouraged with your results with kit glass in low light at any distance past 15 feet with out a big ass flash in the hot shoe, or a completely stationary subject and your camera sitting on a decent tripod using a remote shutter trigger. Also Nikon guys correct me here if I am mistaken , I dont think the D3200 has a in body A/F drive, so that will limit your future glass choices to those that only have A/F drives in the lens them selves if you want to maintain A/F.

I think for 5 bills your better off with a good pro level Point and shoot. Something like a Canon G12 or Olympus XZ-2. Something that will give you full manual controls to learn with, and a way to mount some filters like a CPL or ND when you need them. A supper cheap table to tripod for 15-20 bucks will still let you take some of those long shutter time shots. Then you can decide if this is a hobby you want to invest in further trust me it gets really expensive FAST once you get serious.

If you can bump your budget to 800-1000, you can get into a decent older good condition USED body from Nikon or Canon, a cheap and Fast 50mm F1.8 prime and a couple of Mid level "prosumer" zooms a walk about in the 28-140mm range and a mid level longer telephoto in the 100-250mm range. A couple of Filters a Bag to put it all in and you will be in that 800-1000 range if you shop around and chouse you gear wisely. A tripod will be eventually necessary for lots of Car and Nature stuff figure at least 200 but 400 would be better not too far down the line.

This last option would be my best advise to you if you really want a full on DSLR. Though I am starting to get to the point of wanting to point people down the road of Mirrorless as I have been on the fence of dumping my Canon rig and go to shooting exclusively with Oly gear

Since I havent posted anything lately
