small town monopolies... their are 2 places to get internet service from a telephone company with 500kbs speeds and they throttle P2P and video streaming during peak hours, or what i have from a cable company that knows they have no real competition and charge out the ass:rippedoff:

I live in San Antonio and luckily we will be a google fiber city eventually... though it can't happen fast enough. I'm tired of TimeWarner jacking up my bill by a buck or two every few months. We pay $92/mo now for 150Mb/s. And that's after they JUST upgraded it for "free" from 50Mb/s.

My house has time warner and its pretty terrible. its "faster" but even still i miss my verizon fios. 25mb constant with pings of 4-6 to anywhere.

Cant wait for laws to take effect for real.

So im confused, you installed DDWRT? Or you hated it and switched? Because DDWRT is actually pretty decent compared to the shit software that comes on routers stock.

If the government has their way you want be able to change the software in the future anyway....

I HAD DDWRT on 4+ Nighthawks and Dark Nights. Done with it, as it is flakey and crashes. Moved to a stateful packet inspection router/firewall, and using dedicated Wireless Access points via Ubiquiti. It's been quite a pleasure to use and configure.

What you are looking at is an Atom Rangely board meant for communications with 4 gigabit ethernet ports and an IPMI interface, which allows a remote console, management and reports, such as if the device is being opened up. The board+SSD are being used for a PFSENSE install, which is acting as my router/firewall proxy and intrusion detection system.

And, if you want decent wireless, don't use wireless routers, but instead wireless access points. Too many eggs in one basket. For the price, I am happy with the Ubiquiti UAP-PRO, but they just released new versions at $150 a pop. I would prefer Ruckus, but I can't afford the $500+ price point per AP and subscription for home use. Now at work, it is quite worth it.

Most people don't have the know how for setting up most of that stuff. A $50 Netgear router is what people know, and most dont even know that.

Honestly I've never had your problems with DDWRT.

Open source has its faults, but its free and isnt as bad as the stock.
