Can I do this? Just realized I don't have my Windows discs.. and apparently I have an oem version of Windows 7 Ultimate. I hit up support and they said I can only use it once and would need to purchase another even though I'm just trying to swap it onto an SSD..

I have the product key and everything but they don't want to be helpful apparently :(

You could just download a windows torrent. All you really need to have a genuine copy is the key. I've reinstalled the same copy of windows 7 on my pc multiple times using the same key no issues

I swapped the hd in my sister's lappy top from a spinny one to a Samsung SSD. Samsung included some mirroring software with the drive. You just need a sata-to-usb adapter. You basically mirror everything over, swap out the drives and it should boot up no problem.

          You have several options.

Option 1: Ghost your old drive to the new SSD using a ghost utility. This will result in an exact copy of your drive on that one. You cannot just copy paste. With an HDD to SSD ghosting, you need to make sure your software properly aligns the partition offsets, and more importantly, the sectors. I've used EasyUS. It's free.

Option 2: You can pull your factory OEM install key from the install using Magic Jelly Bean. That way you have your key. (you already do, but this is in case others don't know this)

Option 3: You can install windows using the OOBE experience (Don't enter in a key). The motherboard has the key injected into the BIOS, and when windows starts up it'll read it and boom, off to the races.

I also never recommend torrents for windows. Too easy for them to have some kind of data slipped in. There's a repository that has an install for every digital river version of 7 here.

Then, from there. You can use the windows usb/dvd tool to make a windows installation USB drive.

Once you install, the old key will either work, or it'll say it isn't genuine. But the likelihood of that happening is minimal, It's all the same hardware except for adding the SSD.

Thanks for this! I've been too busy to give this a shot yet, But I'll be trying the 1st option hopefully when I get off work today. It's EaseUS just to be clear, right?

I have a bunch of old computer stuff I had stored for years.
The original mechanical keyboard! These are still highly used in today's tech world.. People are selling them for 50$ or so on ebay.. We throw them away here at work which makes me sad.

I want a short keyboard to replace my sidewinder, thinking its going to be too big for school dorm room desk. Along with my full size tower... my 24in monitor... Lol.

I wanted a 10 keyless but then I realized how much I use the number pad for hw. Once I'm done with school I'd like a smaller keyboard.

I also brought my ikea galant desk down to school. My room is fucking tiny, there's basically no room. I'll have to post up some pictures of my setup later.

There really are. Only reason I bought the Ducky was that it was on sale. I really like it. However, I'm not too huge on the red/blue led mix to determine backlight color. I'd rather have straight white. I also don't like the fact that the disable windows key switch is this tiny dip switch on the bottom of the keyboard. Other than that, it's wonderful. It's nice not having to mess with shitty software (*cough* Corsair *cough*) to play with lighting effects.
