Didn't know, but auctions are the fun way to buy right now, or so it seems.
This year so far I've bought an 01 330i, an 03 Ranger, a 99 SVT Contour, a 16 Colorado, a 10 Ranger, an 01 325ci, and just today an 89 Grumman side console. All of those were from the local mostly charity auction. Total spend just over 11k including transport to my driveway, and not including the 2.5k or so in parts purchased to fix problems the vehicles.

I just think Volvo did such a good job with the whole SPA lineup, especially the V60/V90, Wish that stuck around a little longer, and had a real ICE "Polestar" version or something. The PHEV "Polestar Engineered" stuff is cool/tempting, but the ICE front / Electric Rear powertrain seems like a control systems nightmare, and I don't think the performance figures fit the quoted 455hp/500ftlb. I also want nothing to do with a hybrid system out of warranty.
That said, I guess the Polestar 1 was very SPA-like, but I guess they've just evolved from there.
Would still love to someday pick up a well optioned non-hybrid V60 or V90 and fire a JB4 and a few mods on it, because I like my XC90 a lot for hauling family and highway use - I just wish it was a wagon.Leave a comment:

Massive, gaudy, high walled, slab sided cars fits rolls royce better than BMW. The new 7 series is rolls royce like in its appearance from the sides. I have seen every new BMW model multiple times, even a regular 740i is a slab sided monstrosity. The 2 series sedans look like an edgier 2010s dodge dart. The M2 is somehow both bland looking and ugly. BMW isn't alone though, the new MBs are ugly too, although it's mostly the distended looking front ends with the exaggerated grilles that do them in, they look ok from the side. Distended is a good way to describe the front and read ends of these new BMWs and MBs. They look as if you were to draw a somewhat normal car on a flat front and inflate it, the edges pull taut and don't distort as much, but the center swells, distorting the proportions. The rears look this way too, the tail lights look small and high up, leaving a huge expanse of trunk lid and bumper below and between them.BMW seems to have sent the blind design head off to destroy Rolls Royce now.
Good riddance, but some of the people coming in sound like scrubs also... the guy who butchered the Volvo SPA design language to make the polestar electric cars, someone who designed the recent Mini abominations, and two others that sound alright.

What does look surprisingly good in person is the new Bentley Continental GT. The polestars are ok looking for electric cars, compared with telsa motors cars which are pathologically bland, as if designed by committee and focus group to be inoffensive.Leave a comment:
