    e36 m3.
put a vortec super charger on it.

slide the shit out of it at the track until the chassis cant take anymore damage.

    put the engine into a $500 e30.

this could probably be done for like 7.5k lol.

Go to any REI in the PNW and it's like a Subaru convention. lol

mmmhmmm. I never got over 24 MPG on my EJ22 legacy.

Okay so I think we've figured it out.
He needs to get a 2014 BMW GT-B M3 GTR with a 98 low mileage Civic swap for $5k, spend $5k fixing it up for hypermileing at the track, and then his last $10k on 400 dildoes.

The brand new ones are a little better on fuel (at least the small ones), but they aren't $10k either. Also the EPA says your car averages 19/27, which isn't that great. just because you get 38 for 5 seconds of low throttle input on the freeway doesn't make it fuel efficient, you can do that with any vehicle that has instantaneous MPG readouts.

also, links to social media sites don't work for most people during work hours..

And the cruising wasn't off-throttle or any BS like that, just regular flat and straight FL highway. This is insane....

    Here, my legacy AVERAGE MPG.

Even my 1997 legacy brighton with stripper everything and 2.2l only got 28mpg or so at best. 185/65/14 tires

sure, and I can get 45mpg instantaneous on my E30 if I cruise at 70 and lift off the throttle. :|

Our legacy is an 03. A tune isn't going to help, the thing is a turd. It technically redlines at 7k but it falls flat on it's face after 4500, so I don't even bother.

Obviously, and as I stated very clearly, the 34-38mpg on the sti wasn't average, but immediate cruising mpg. I also said that I got an average of 24-28 on the sti. If you dont go into boost, it's just a regular ol 4 cylinder with oversized injectors.

Being able to tune the car helps an immense amount. For daily driving I tuned it specifically for economy. No reason to waste gas just puttering back and forth to work. That being said, my legacy isn't tuned at all-- 100% bone stock.

The 90's subaru factory tunes were awful. Unfortunately there aren't many good options for tuning them either. With the 02+ impreza and legacy however you get very useful addons like the Cobb access port and open source tuning. These methods can help significantly with economy.

I'm only speaking facts and experiences.
Former sti & evo owner here.

Addiction for sure; I had to sell both and leave it behind as it was too addicting of a financial disaster.

I never ever ever got more than 25mpg cruising sipping boost.

Just saying; you must have the prim and proper training of grandma to be driving one of those weapons at 30mpg++

A 10k STi needs a 5k engine reserve. Just my own experience; sti loved eating engines and I loved pushing it to the engine eating limit.

If you are really enjoying a car like a STi you can blow 10k a year on it in tires/fuel/consumption.
