So F80 then. Every previous M3 had little torque and needed to be revved out. You're looking for more of a Corvette than an M3, "kind of nimble" with "oodles of tq."

If you don't want to push to get power, you can stop looking at sportbikes. They don't make any low end torque.

You're looking for something like an SV1000, Buell XB or VFR.

I still like being able to tinker, so maybe a bike with a center stand?

You're looking for a twin engine. Either a Vtwin or something similar to that. Those have A LOT of low end grunt. Don't specifically look for a bike with a center stand, you're limiting your options and it's going to weigh more. Get rear stand spools on the bike ($40) and a well reviewed stand on Amazon ($60).

I know of a good SV1000 for sale right now: http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/mcy/5335052206.html

I'd go for one of the gear-driven cam models just for the intoxicating sound. I own a '95 (3rd gen, last of the carb'd bikes). I prefer CV carbs to fuel injection on bikes since they're so much easier to troubleshoot and a little less touchy to the throttle. If fuel injection is more your speed, Honda built the VFR800 as well.
I own and DD a 98 vfr800 and have to disagree. I've tracked it the same day after riding 500+ miles, the fi cam driven v4 is a jewel but no m3 equivi. That would be any bmw RR ( or any litre bike) like others have been suggesting. Those things are scary to twist the throttle to. 100 mph in 1st gear???????!?!?! Any bike will kill you faster than an m3 will so I guess even a honda grom is pretty extreme haha ;)

Edit: VFR's have center stands.... so yeah, get a VFR. GREAT BIKES and truly are the multi purpose bike. Very reasonable to see one last over 200-250K miles. I was thinking to my model's (98 ) standards, which would be like a hybrid between an e36-e46 m3. Im sure the newer ones can go beyond the 150mph I've taken mine, easy.

this is the most spot on suggestion. I mean in terms of pedigree/racing history. homologated "street" bike and even has the same first production year as the M3.
I'd love to own this bike one day. saw one for the first time at jccs a few years ago and fell in love.

How rare is that bike? There are none on ebay and only a VFR750F on craigslist in PA.

Rarer than the e30m3. There were 200 for the US market. There is a guy local to me that has one, that is still in the shipping crate.

The modern ones (last 10-15 years or so) are all so close in performance it's about what is the most comfortable to you and you like the styling of.
I have to disagree with this. You're close though. Say 07-08 to present are all very similar. There were some big changes around 06-08 like fuel injection, inverted forks and all around lighter parts, and they just felt a lot more balanced. I had a Smoking Joes CBR, and the bought a new GSXR in 06 (I believe that was the first year for FI). The CBR felt like a Harley compared to the GSXR.

Hayabusa with helibars and a nice seat. 44 mpg at 105, comfy, I've done 1200 miles in a weekend, and I do have a shitty back.
