Maybe you guys all work with the lame ass millennials who had daddy pay for their business administration degree and want to make bank without working cause they had their hands held?

Definitely a nurture over nature on this topic. Many baby boomers raised their kids like shit and didn't prepare them for how aggressive advertisements have become lately. We, admittedly or not, attain a lot of our values through the television, news, internet and the advertisements that come in those mediums. Control, or a handle of any of those and you can mold the minds of the youth.

Why do boys have to like blue and girls pink? Boys chemistry sets and girls dolls? I know it's traditional but in this world, that trend can change within a year and it hasn't because retailers don't market that shit like that. If real change isn't marketable then it isn't done.

My boy Melle also makes a great point for the people who aren't spoiled fucking assholes. It works both ways, if you don't know any other way, then how can you break out of your bringing up unless there's a serious kick in the ass?

I am on the cusp of Gen X/Y, and I feel the millennials I know and work with are pretty evenly divided between normal hardworking, lazy stoners with no hope for the world, and whiny bitches pissed because they aren't rich. The more money they have, the more they seem to complain about how they don't have enough money.

this is a huge erking point for me. you need to meet someone to know what kind of person they are. my father and i were talking, he was raised super poor, government cheese and all. if he would have tried to apply today he never would of had a chance. the sterotypes and his location alone would have made him "unhireable". he met the manager in person showed his hard work and now 20+yrs later he certifies all the government employees in california to run chainsaws and all kind of cool shit.

the millennial thing is just another tired stereotype. Just like how the gen-X/Y thing was really tired 10 years ago. The funny thing is I don't end up fitting into any of those, because the late 70's had really low birth rates and I fall into a gap that is neither gen-X nor gen-Y (whatever those really are).

also, all the baby boomers complaining about how easy young kids have it are idiots. They basically could breeze through high school and get a good paying job right away, and afford a house/2 kids/stay at home wife/new car etc. These days it's difficult for a kid to get a job at mcdonalds because some loser 45 year old wasted his life in the 80's doing lines of coke and that's the only job he can get now.

I agree in some ways, as its still possible if you hit the right situation or pick the right trades to do those things out of highschool still. Its just not going college is not socially acceptable, "not cool" and not fun since you dont get to party every night, since you have to go to work in the a.m. Plus have been told since middle school bye almost everyone that you will never amount to anything or have any kind of success in your life if you dont go to college and get a degree.

Your pops is a Wildland FF or a forester I take it. This explains a lot about how and why they have the property they have in the location they have it ;) (yes I remember that conversation)

Supposedly I am a "millennial" since I am a circa 1980 model. Yet raised in large part by 4 members of the greatest generation ( my Grandparents and great aunt and uncle). Needless to say most of you dont need me to express my views on this topic. Safe to say I am big on bootstraps, hard work, personal sacrifice to get where you need to be, one of the newer buzz word phrases I hate the most is " Work Life Balance" that I hear coming out out the little shits mouths when faced with actually working more than 8 hours a day or more than 5 days a week.

My thoughts Shut up, put your head down, do the job you have been hired to do to the best of your ability in the most efficient manner you can muster. Keep your eyes and ears open for new opertunity to move up either where your at or else where, be willing to move more than 10 miles form Mommy, and your buddies for that opportunity to better your self.

On top of that, and someone can correct me if I'm wrong here, but things just weren't as expensive back then either. I don't know if things are more expensive now because they're more complicated, or because wages have not kept up with the cost of living. My guess is that it's a combination of both.

it's both, but mostly real wages have been flat or even declining. Unless you're in the top 1%.

Is it just cause lots of kiddos abuse it or do you think the idea of 40 hours a week or less is insane?

Most first world countries have like 35 hours as a full time job.

It may not be as big of a deal in your field, but when you are faced with multiple 50+ hour work weeks in a row there is reason to bring up work life balance. The goal isnt to work your life away, you are not a baby or a waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles for wanting time to spend with your family or doing your hobbies. I feel like the generation before us was brainwashed into the "you gotta work all the time, and thats a good thing" idea. I mean we even see it in commercials...

Thats the shit the older generation pushes.

damn it I had a good paragraph ready and my phone timed out.
                            in short,
                            are millenials lazy bastards?
                            yes and no.
every older generation will belittle the new one. however the bad apples will make the rest look bad.
in the end. everyone's life is different. I can say that many people do not have the opportunities that some of us had, nor will ever have the opportunity. not because they don't want to maybe because their environment does not allow them. And in some cases that is very very true. It's not easy to just buck up and get it done, or to shut up and do it. Even here in America. why? simply because they do not Know what is necessary to succeed. Or because their life was meant to be doomed idk, but it happens.
point is, what's the older generation doing to help the younger one? are you like that E5 who puffs his chest, smokes the hell out of his subordinates and when push comes to shove, can't even pass the minimum apft? or that leader or mentor who goes above and beyond to ensure that new guy/ girl is suited for the task at hand?
let's not judge and categorize all millenials into one sterotype as some of you, not all but some do.

When I see someone from the younger generation, a lot of times he's an unrealistic toolbag. Most often when I see an older guy, he's rude and impatient. I guess my point is everyone sucks.

I would be considered a millenial and what the perceived notion that my generation is lazy does for me is make it easier to climb the ladder. If you work hard and everyone else around you doesn't, who's more likely to move up first?

Love this part - it's what I was told and how I lived my life.

Unfortunately, there are many that live each day thinking the grass is greener in someone else's yard, or that they are not achieving their goals because of everyone else. Not even sure if it's a specific generation or race or whatever.
