Wow. Sad. I wonder how his counterparts such as Matt Hoffman are fairing. Lots of big air and bigger crashes. Same way we see an uptick in concussion awareness for football, I have to guess these extreme sport athletes are not safe from the daily poundings.Comment

I have to agree that sports related concussion(s) may have played a part. Just a guess, but you know he has taken many many helmet to concrete shots. Sucks, he was still young with young kidsComment

Loosely related and not to detract from his passing, may God rest his soul and comfort the family, Netflix has a decent documentary "Big Air"... Matt Hoffman docentary... and it seems appropriate with all the injuries and how passionate those guys were.m the founding fathers of BMX in my eyes..

i saw dave mirra at the 2000 x games in san fransisco. sad to see such a strong person an legend fall at their own demise.... i honestly have a hard time believing someone so strong and influential doing this to them self..... i guess its just a harsh reality.....

Yea I saw that same documentary and its nuts how much abuse these guys take and just keep going. It eventually catches up to you.
First BMX was a purple Mongoose expert pro, then a chromoly Schwinn and the Schwinn that I still have today. Aluminum frame, Titanium forks, profile 3 piece cranks... Never getting rid of it

I was extremely sad when I saw that he passed. he was one of my idols growing up. he was the reason I always wanted to be on my bike. and even when I couldn't be on my bike I'd be playing his video game on my ps2 (best soundtrack ever). rip man.sigpic

RIP Some are saying his depression could have been caused by several concussions during his BMX career.
