    Tesla...What does R3V think.

Im in for the Model 3 as a place holder. It will probably be 2 years till deliveries so I have plenty of time to think about it.

    Chime in.

I like it. I'm not even remotely interested in buying one, or any other Tesla, but I do like it, and what he's doing with electric cars. In ten years time, I think electric cars will be vastly improved. I only worry that, like cell phones, they'll be subject to frequent replacement. Not sure how that will go. Maybe the older cars will be sent in for upgrades.

I like it too. I'll be interested to see how it goes.

On a side note, the fucking audience at that press conference made it impossible to watch.

It is a sexy looking car... certainly don't have the money for one unless it fell from the sky.

I too am interested where the electric car market will be in 5-10 years.

I think once the next wave of battery technology hits, electric cars will really take off because of the increased range and reduced cost.

That said, I would really like to see a full life cycle analysis for electric car battery packs.
In other words, details about the environmental effects of the initial battery pack production, and recycling after their usable life.

It would be interesting to see the big picture of how "green"electric cars actually are compared to a conventional ICE based vehicle. I'd like to include the power plant in that as well (ie, coal fired, natural gas, nuclear, etc)

For me personally, I enjoy hearing an engine "sing" as I row through the gears. An electric car can't replicate that for me.

Yeah pretty much sums it up for me as well. I could see having one as a DD though. As much as I hate to admit it, I really prefer a newer car as a DD... which kinda sucks since my DD is older than me lol.

Looks like the future is here. How can you argue with the performance? Virtually zero maintenance, no more gasoline, etc. As long as the battery holds up, range and charging stations increase...it makes a lot of sense. The writing is on the wall.

I wonder about electric cars, I'm working at a Toyota import facility. Guy was telling me cars like the Prius should expect 10 years of life. I wonder what length of time the Tesla batteries. Can be expected to last.

I think of it as a laptop. There's bound to be some Chinese company who makes their version of the battery that will be compatible. With competition comes lower prices too. I remember when a spare cell phone battery was $60-80. Now you can get them as low as $4 for Lithium Ion. Tesla is already offering battery swaps at some of their recharge stations for those on the go so the batteries can be changed fairly easily. It's only a matter of time before it becomes just like a cell phone.

                    Tesla...What does R3V think.

I have 2 on hold. Got to the Tesla store near my house at 5am and was 4th in line. 2 years to decide if I want to keep it - but by 2018 my 335 will be 11 years old with 150k+ miles on a 650hp+ engine.

That's retirement from DD territory - but it won't be going anywhere - nor will the E30 M3.

My theory is that internal combustion cars are having to become so complex to deal with emissions laws while maintaining power output and other desirable features (I.e. Keep from all becoming Priuses) that an electric car will just make more sense from a reliability and cost of ownership perspective. Very few moving parts, instant torque, great power, range is growing and charge time is shrinking. Tesla isn't like a Leaf or a Bolt that is electric first and car second. It's a great car, powered by an electric drivetrain, and doesn't look like a mutated frog fetus (ahem: Leaf, i3) , so I'm rapidly becoming a fan.

That's the other thing I've noticed. Not only do they look like regular cars, but they look like nice cars. I've seen a few in person and they're very striking. Doesn't look like Tesla has half-assed anything, which I think is especially important since it's a relatively new kind of product.

Although, while the car is mechanically very simple, electronically... I gotta say I'm a little worried. The younger generation will probably do well with them though.

I figured they had the whole S model to work out the kinks. If I had the capital or family members were looking for a car ID be forcing their hand to order one.

I don't think it looks horrible, and the idea of electric cars does not entirely turn me off, but I'm the kinda guy who thinks cars from 10 years ago are "modern" and "fancy." Something like a $30k Tesla is so far out of my reach its not even on my radar.

There are some hardware differences between the early and later build dates, but most of the troubleshooting can be done remotely over the Internet. It's crazy - you come to your car in the morning and they'll have installed a new feature or tweaked something while you were sleeping.

I really, really want a Model S, but can't justify it try as I might.

It's so nice to see an American car company that doesn't wrap itself in the flag to hide its impotence. We got my wife a Buick Enclave because it's good for kids with the moving middle seats, and it came with this ridiculous UAW "made with pride" sticker on inside of the driver door that said "Building on our heritage, we commit to building the world's finest vehicles"

Disgusting. If you are actually building the worlds greatest vehicles, you don't need a fucking sticker on the car to say it. People will line up to buy them... or camp out overnight in some instances as we just saw. I just hate Detroit's self-fellatio - it makes me sick.

This thing is really cool. Talk about the ultimate Kickstarter campaign! They had over 115,000 orders before they even showed or released what it looked like! That's simply amazing. The two things keeping me from putting down on one is, A) way too impatient to wait 2 years, and B) what do you think other car company's have in the works that will come out by then?!

Them selfs is very cool specially for me when I spend almost 3 hours a day in a car.
