I’m with this. I think I’m gonna vote no on my own thread. But I already voted rob :(.

I’m open to suggestions for decently economical, decently reliable, decently new (95-05+) awd 5 door that can be had for ~ ± 5k.

Well, $5k won't do it, but I absolutely fucking love my E82. The N55 has torque EVERYWHERE and with the DCT, great stereo, just a fantastic car. I think it's the favorite of the 20 or so cars I've had.

My favorite thing about my 80 (and Toyotas in general) is the head gasket had a factory defect, that caused it to fail....@ 174k miles.

Allroads are cool in that obscure soccer mom but still kinda fun sorta way. But they are are boosted Audi and with an air ride suspension so we all know where that is going to end up.

A 3rd gen t4R is going to work well for you and in your price range but will have a metric fuck ton of hours on it with 4wd and less than 200k your going to have up your budget a bit. I know most people think they are god awful but in your area you should be able to find a S10 Blazer in 4wd floating around thats not rusted to oblivan. They really were prertty good for relibilty and cheapness to opperate but the 4.3l is not the best for economy (though the 1 in my dads way old 2wd 1/2 got close to 30mpg) . Economy is going to be on par with its size at 17ish and 21ish on the highway. and it will run badly for longer than most things on the road run at all. Put a new GM fuel pump in it every 3-10 years, front hubs about once a decade (so long as you toque them right) and other than the dreaded TCC code for the 4l60E they are fucking bullet proof...... Also fucking CHEAP, easy to work on and cheap to fix........ Between my family, and frineds we have had somewhere close to 30 S10 based trucks from 1984 to my buddies current 2002 blazer, hes rocking nearly daily that you might be able to buy for less than your budget, thats got almost no rust and new fuel pump and battery as of 3 weeks ago.
