Im liberal socialist republican kinda dude. What gun should I buy? I've owned my home for about a year and a half now. I live right outside of the projects sort of, in a neighborhood thats up and coming/shifting.

Ive inherited 2 guns that I know nothing about. 2 pistols. But I really want a nice hand gun and an assault rifle to toy with. What do I buy?
Seems like AR-15's are the most common beginners rifle. Cheap, and easy to build. Also keep in mind, Tennessee is fairly lax on gun laws. Is buying a used gun safe?

For home defense you get a shotgun. For personal, a pistol (and definitely know how to use it, go practice).

PM me for detailing services in the Longmont / Boulder Area in Colorado!

I love that stock. Im planning on buildin an ar at some point and I'm using that exact same damn stock. My brother built one with a tiny barrel, quad rails, etc, etc, and all I noticed was how comfy that stock was(I've held/shot alot of ar's, they all have there own characteristics but still all kinda feel the same to me)

Fix the unlined bold part and we will let you in on whats good....:)

if not call the police, that is their job to protect you.

Ok enough with the sarcasm. IF you are not going to get into shooting and really practice, Id say something for home protection.... a shot gun. A semi auto shotgun to be exact. Because of its ease to use and the easiness of hitting a target in your house. If you dont feel like sporting a shotgun, then a wheel gun. Something that goes bang no matter what. Something along the lines of a .357. Tons of power to take down something and again the ease to use under a stressful situation.

Im guessing is buying a used safe a good idea? As long as the safe is in good working order you can have a locksmith change the combination to the lock. But know finding a good used safe is almost the cost of a new one. Unless you know someone or someone is upgrading to a larger safe.

But remember safes are not created equal. Do some research on what is a good safe and what to look away from.

Noted. Ive been playing a lot of Call of Duty. My personal favorite is the SPAS-12. Should I just buy one of those?

Oh yeah, I should also note that I ran into a friend from high school. Hes on reserve from the Army as a sniper or some shit and he wants to go shoot some big guns. Being a good redneck, I agreed.
What other assault rifles are good for target practice for beginners? I also havent shot anything in several years.

Oh yeah does anyone have any experience with an xd9 compact? I picked one up on the cheap but it feels real poopy compared to my high power.

This might be just me but you can never go wrong with an ak-47.

                  lol.!!
Ill take that into consideration. Thanks.

What about assault rifle though? I want it for sport. Of course I will practice, and be guided by people that know whats up. Not hard to find someone with a carry permit and knowledge round these parts. Hell, you can still bring a loaded gun into a bar here...

if you are wanting to get into an "assault style rife" sporting rifle like an AR, an AR-15 is a wonderful platform to learn marksmanship. The beauty of an AR is the fact that there is a huge aftermarket following for this platform. Parts are for the most part interchangeable with different brands and much like a car you can custom build one to do different things.

If you are looking to just punch paper and do it cost effectively you are able to do that with the AR by buying either a .22LR, a 9mm, or even a 7.62x39 conversion or upper assembly.

The cost per round is anywhere from .03 to .35 cents per round that way.

If you want to stay with the standard configuration of the AR at 5.56 then yo are looking into the .50 cent a round market.

The beauty of the AR is there is no real recoil from the rifle shooting standard 5.56 rounds. The round is fast traveling around 3000 fps. Its not meant to be used as a hunting rifle unless bored up with another upper.

I say build your first one. You will always remember that one and most likely will never sell it either. Take your time and piece it together. You can get into one for around $650 these days.

You don't HAVE to jump to an AR or AK platform to have a "fun" gun... Look at a Mosin-Nagant or an SKS, cheap to buy, fun to shoot. As for shotgun, the COD comment makes me think you're trolling, but if not, that's fine. Sleeve or Dubin, do you guys know what happened with that bill or whatever it was they were trying to use to outlaw tactical shotguns like the Spas?

That is true but a Mosin and a SKS is not even in the same class as the AR or even AK. They are fun guns to shoot but I would not have one as one of my first guns.

The Spas has been banned since 1989, they just stopped the import of the SAGA shotguns and the price on those are reflecting.

Alright thanks for clarification. Agreed they're not in the same realm as an AR, but cheaper and still fun. I'd rather buy cheap and see that I'm bored with all of it than get deep into an AR and turn around and sell it.... Like I did... Haha

Mosin is awesome, just get a good padded butt for it if you wanna shot it a lot. 7.62x54r is pretty cheap as well.

SKS is fun too, but the way I blow through 7.62x39 it gets expensive.

ARs I just don't like. Sure, they're cheap to shoot/mod/etc....but I see them as the Honda of the gun world. Everyone has one, and theirs is always better than everyone else's.

If you want something cheap and fun, just get a .22. If you want SRS BSNS, roll on up to some nice Russian 7.62 stuff.

                                Some like to do both...

My Mosin is damn accurate through open sights. I was chasing a soda can up a hill at the range with it...well....until about four shots in and the can kinda wasn't there anymore....

Thinking of picking up another Mosin and modding the hell out of it. I would get a Mauser, but dad told me not to waste my money....he's a Mauser aficionado and has built about every caliber out there, thus I would be wasting my money to buy one when I can just shoot one of his.

Lifetime NRA membership was my birthday present when I turned 18, just FYI....
