If there was a draft would you go?

If it does happen, I'll just hop a boat to whatever country I feel like (probably Australia) and do that 5-year-long backpacking trip around the world I've always wanted to do..... traveling > getting shotComment

Even though i do not agree to have young kids die oven anything, money, oil or politics, please think that if everybody acted like you would, the country (any country) would be left without people and would be taken over without firing a shot. Let me put it this way, after the 5 years, you would have nowhere to return to.
You will take the 5 year trip because you are counting on someone else doing the fighting for you, and that IS a coward attitude.

Wow..... Some of these responses are honestly apalling. ak96ss and I are on the same page. he's a little more eloquent than I am but thats what I'm getting at.
You may be successful at what you do Ben. You may be a born leader. There are positions available for you as I'm sure you have college and stuff under your belt so you can show creditials as to why you are what you are. If there was a draft you wouldn't be herded into a corral and handed a weapon and some gear then thrown on a plane handed a parachute and kicked out the door.
As for your "credit for contribution" BS..... You can't be serious.
From what I get out of your comments about Finland..... It seems to me like you'd go to any country that wasn't involved in whatever war there is. Are you really that afraid of war? I know afraid is a harsh word, but thats the only way I can put it. Is it that you don't believe in war? Is it that you don't believe in the US?
On a side note for all you guys who love guns..... I got my hands on a .50cal sniper rifle last night.... BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...... sometimes this job is honestly super cool.

No, unfortunately, the days when you 'run what you brung' are over. There is motion in the direction of a better rifle, but politics are getting in the way. Some troops get different/better rifles, but these are generally the special ops guys, not the average Joes.It would help if I wouldn't be shoved a M16/M4/AR-15 derivitative which doesn't fit me. Same for pistols. The M9 is fatter than a tree trunk.
Long guns: HK
Pistols: 1911 single stack, checkin' out those Sigs
Servicemen: Do they let you own "other" guns other than the standard "one size fits all" ^.^ AR15 series?
And I agree on the M9 issue as well - when I first qualified with a pistol in the Army it was the M1911, and while the M9 may be more accurate and let you carry more rounds, my point has always been this: if they are close enough that I need to use my pistol, I want to drop them with one shot, not throw a lot of lead at them. The .45 will do that.
Speedhop: the desks are wood, generally mahogany for the bigwigs. Swing by sometime, I'll bring you through and show you. Given your communications skills and attitude, I expect that Hell would freeze over before you would have the opportunity to sit behind your own.John in MD - 1991 318is

We call that malingering and in time of war that is 10 years in the federal pen and a felony conviction on your record for life. IMHO you should be drafted, patched up, and sent anyway.
FWIW.
Whether you consider this a legitimate war or not is irrelevant. Americans are serving with honor here and overseas regardless of their opinion of the legitimacy of any war or this one in particular, whether or not they agree with this administration's policy in regards to the use of force, or whether or not they even voted for this administration.
You enjoy the pleasures of American society without the responsibilities - good for you. Now move to Canada.
In the interests of full disclosure, I just went over 21 years in the Army and have some rather definite opinions about people who won't serve if called upon. I'm not saying everyone should serve in the military, but everyone should serve their country somehow.
+1 15 years in the Navy and going strong. Seems like some only want to serve if there is a shot at glory. That's not what being in the military is all about. It's about serving your country at anytime.
I'm a drill instructor and just the other day some kid found out that with his job, he might have to go to Iraq or Afghanistan and now he wants out, because as he stated, he only joined for college. waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswafflesComment

Quoted since that's exactly what I was thinking of Ben, and a few things worse.
Ben, if you really think your cute little stereotype of the South is true, then I sure hope you go to Finland. You are a bigot, plain & simple - and you think that since you were dealt BY CHANCE a better life than some others, that you are superior to them. You need to get a grip on that little ego of yours, since the South has turned out far more good things than you will ever produce in your life. We don't need you in any of our 50 states, no matter what you do "for the environment".
On that note, you say you do that without pay, but wouldn't letting you out of service be a form of payment?
Get over yourself, you are not a unique snowflake - you are a 9 digit Social Security Number & at birth you made an obligation to serve by being born on U.S. soil - if the time comes, either man up & deal, or leave permanently.
It's not a difficult concept, nor am I saying it as a supporter of this current conflict, because in truth I don't think we have a whole lot of purpose there.
But regardless of my personal opinion, I know the commitment from birth & if told to go get a gun & a set of fatigues, I'd do so without hesitation, simply to honor my obligation.
Sidenote - .50 cals are dang cool - I was pretty scared the time I shot one at a range in NV, but after the 1st shot I was surprised at the recoil, it was less then I had been told to anticipate.
It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.Comment

this thread just irritates the shit out of me. if you wont serve your country get the fuck out now. it doesnt matter what think or what you believe in. you are reaping all the benefits of a democratic free society. there should be mandatory service of some sort. whether youre fighting or serving soldiers food or cleaning their toilets. it doesnt matter but you should be willing to serve.Comment

this is the epitome of fagism. not only are you a splineless waffleswaffleswaffleswaffles but you have no problem letting the rest of us know it. its actually probably a good thing you wont serve because when the shit hit the fan and the enemy is coming down on everyone i sure as shit wouldnt want a bitch like you having my back.Comment
