    well, alabama.

    I could respond with:

Bush (read: the entire federal government) suggested credits for purchasing federal land for drilling to US oil producers only in order to make them more competetive globally and to convince them into investing in local sources, that way if the shit hits the fan we can tap those resources.

The bullshit behind it are claims (mostly being made by critics) that its an attempt to lower prices.

But then you would respond with something moronic and how any actual knowledge isnt needed to make such an argument so the sarcasting remark making fun of your ignorance is much more fitting.

    Time for some dead cow!

It's a win/win for big oil. They rake in the cash and leave everyone else holding the bag.
The funny thing is we arent really blaming the treehuggers. Its the fucking Chinese for using so much of the stuff. If the rest of the world would stop using it we could have cheap oil back.

The land they have right now wouldnt produce enough to jusitfy the costs of opening it up. Of course there is plenty of oil, its just getting harder to get to. We are running out of the vast pools in shallow rock.

you're right, drilling won't neccesarily help anything, because there has been a ban on new refineries for 30 years - even if we had all that oil, we wouldn't be able to convert it to gas/diesel fast enough to make much difference. Good thing the oil companies are investing hundreds of billions into upgrading and revamping existing refineries huh? so much for not lifting a finger.

I think there might be ONE new refinery in the works, but the approval process is long and ripe with red tape and bureaucracy. I'll be amazed if it goes through.

That refinery is facing stiff opposition in a hotbed of liberalism - BFE, North Dakota.

The botttle neck is refining, not getting the oil. The newest refinery here is over 25 years old. But there's not much margin refining, hence not encouraged to add capacity. There's not a lot of future to invest in here as everyone wants to use less gas. (If it was going to be a continued growth of demand, then adding refining capacity would make sense) Demand for gas has slowed finally for the first time in a long time.

It's China's fault oil prices are higher... which is actually our fault for buying so much shit from other there.

Politicians are fucking stupid for suggesting to put the tax on gas on hold. (Hillary waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleson)

where it's located has little to do with it - most of the refineries were built before the EPA. it's hard/expensive enough to do an upgrade - to build a new one and get it through the federal goverment is another thing altogether.

The cost of materials doesn't help either. I designed some screens to go in a cooling pump basin, these things are small by industrial standards - 6'x20'. total materials cost for stainless steel was like $40,000. each.

Your wrong, they are catching up, but, California as of now uses more gasoline-oil than China. They are rapidly gaining and may surpass Ca's usage by years end.

And let's get a couple of things straight - I have no problem with big oil making obscene profits.

                          I have a problem with:

                          A. Dubya's tax breaks and royalty concessions (corporate welfare).

                          2. People who try to blow smoke up my ass about big oil's obscene profits. ie, like blaming it on the "liberals" or suggesting that record profits aren't really record profits because of "profit margins".

Nothing pisses me off more than a motherfcuker who tries to pass the buck while he's raping my wallet.

Just sack up and admit that you're fucking me because you know nobody will stop you, and I'll respect you for it.
the president cannot give tax breaks without congress' approval, so go look in the mirror and say fuck you.

the oil companies are not responsible for high oil. econ 102. maybe even more advanced econ 103. oil's a commodity. it's a fucking bid/auction market influenced by demand/supply and innuendo/opinion/fear/greed/government policies such as drill no drill/ onm and on. the president HAS NO CONTROL. again go look in the mirror and repeat no.1

do you have a clue how much of the world's oil supply exxon owns and sells? <2% it ain't their fault, and why should they drill more. it's apublic co beholden to shareholders who right no are probably pretty happy. your ultimate solution is for government to own the oil cos, which any taxpayer can tell you is the worst possible solution

Yes, and 2 years ago Bush's republican Congress rubber-stamped the bill.

                              So go fuck yourself.
