You would vote for obama if I proved you wrong? :weak:

I don't care so much for any politicians past as much as I worry about how they are today. Smearing some one's past, including Bush jr's spotty record in the national guard, is as sad as an attempt as a cartoon show going to space to save its falling ratings.

You will not get much respect if call people who are acting exactly like yourself sheep.

Hannity? really? That the best you can come up with? Why not O'reilly or Limbaugh?

Can't you see the writing on the wall?

The odds of McCain winning are less and less as each second ticks.

Those folks at Fox sure as hell know how to make him look like the Anti-Christ.

I'm not much of a political wiz, but that just makes no sense. Do you really believe the Democrats would elect someone like that to be their nominee? It's not like they all met in the cafeteria and were like, "Hey Jim who should we nominate for Presidency"
    "Oh I dunno Bob"
    "Well we are democrats right"
    "Yeah so?"
"Well why not a Woman and a Minority"
"Gosh darnit Jim thats a bright idea"
    "Who though"
"Oh why not that young Black senator from Illinois? I think his name is Obama"
"Yeah and Hillary! That'd be swell"

and then the high fives ensued.

How can you be so trusting of the media? And of Fox news? When several times in this thread people have criticized CBS. I mean come on, whats next? He's strapped with C-4 and he's going to blow the white house up when he gets in? Seriously dude, I think your fear and paranoia are driving you to believe insane things.

Or maybe some of us just aren't being fearful enough...dun dun dunnnnnnnnnnnn

Really, how does Fox News get away with calling themselves 'fair and balanced'? I don't think a more blatant lie has ever been promoted on national television.

Damn Old'n'Slow you're pretty brave to be arguing against McCain/Palin on a pretty much red website. I wish I was more well versed in politics =/. I'd try to back you up. Unfortunately character assassination is all I can do for now.

Right? It's either your opinion, or, if you are claiming it is fact, you cite the reference. Who said it, and in what context? Can't/won't cite is a concession of the point. It becomes your opinion.

Searched and guess what? No word of supporting getting paid while not actually working.

Easy there, turbo. My feelings regarding the veracity of the bible are an opinion, mmmmkay? I don't have to defend it other than to state it's an opinion.

Here is my argument, for the sake of clarity: If you are the type of person who believes an invisible man controls everything, then your objectivity is questionable. IN MY OPINION, people in power need to retain their objectivity. History contains numerous occasions where people were convinced to do very immoral things by leaders who had, by inferring a mandate from god, induced fear of godly wrath if they were not followed. Palin believes she is doing what an invisible man in the sky wants her to do, and thus may not be able to carry out a possible presidential position objectively.

    Got it?

I was hoping you had the links at hand, since you seemed so versed. You stated he did his homework, to refute my suggestions that he is not prepared. Simply telling me to figure it out for myself does nothing to strengthen your position.

    Vedub,

    Is that really from Rush?

And if so, do you expect me to take him seriously? A man who puts food on the table by saying provocative things like "You want to tell me that Obama has got something against terrorists around the world when his best friend is one"? Riiiight.

Isn't he the one who once declared "no mercy for drug users", then became one?

Rush Limbaugh radio show (quoted in the L.A. Times, 8/20/95)

I want to let you read along with me a quote from Jerry Colangelo about substance abuse, and I think you'll find that he's very much right…"I know every expert in the world will disagree with me, but I don't buy into the disease part of it. The first time you reach for a substance you are making a choice. Every time you go back, you are making a personal choice. I feel very strongly about that."...

What he's saying is that if there's a line of cocaine here, I have to make the choice to go down and sniff it….And his point is that we are rationalizing all this irresponsibility and all the choices people are making and we're blaming not them, but society for it. All these Hollywood celebrities say the reason they're weird and bizarre is because they were abused by their parents. So we're going to pay for that kind of rehab, too, and we shouldn't. It's not our responsibility. It's up to the people who are doing it. And Colangelo is right.

Except, of course, when the guy with the problem is Rush. Hypocrisy writ large.

    You can do better.

No. I would like that political candidates did not "cling" to it. My assertion that I am uncomfortable with people in office who believe they are operating under an invisible, unknowable "plan" is legitimate. Anything can be justified if you can convince enough people that god has chosen you as his spokesperson. History is not ambiguous here.

You missed the point of this entirely..... Moving on.....

Check your facts here. It was the Republican governor who used the terms "threats of prosecution and criminal punishment". Obama's campaign stated it would "respond immediately to any ads and statements that might violate Missouri ethics laws". Perfectly legal tactic given the campaign climate in Missouri at the time. Had Palin done the same thing, would she have been lauded for taking a hard stand? You betcha! ;)

You are confusing fact and opinion. Again.

Sorry. You said "trust me-on the campaign trail"......as if you'd run for office.

Link please. I'd love to see the results of McCain's homework on this and other topics.

I agree. The problem is ignorant parents who statistically tend to produce similar children. Palin has stated her position on abortion, and were it come to fruition, would ensure a steady stream of unwanted children who will likely need some form of government assistance. I hate abortion, but you can't legislate good behavior. You can, however, incentivise it, and educate with regard to the alternatives. There will always be women who accidently get pregnant even when educated about the consequences just as there will always be people who shoot up on heroin even though they "know better". Just as needle exchange programs help prevent habitual users from becoming a yet more expensive burden on society while not advocating drug use, teaching contraception to people old enough to get pregnant is similarly proactive. We need to inform them with straight talk , alert them to all the possible consequences and support them in making the right decisions.

I can't get behind any candidate who thinks curtailing a woman's right to choose could possibly be a good idea. The rich will still be able to obtain secret abortions from sympathetic doctors just as they always have, while the poor will be forced to resort to other means. Incentivise the avoidance of pregnancy the right way, and women will choose appropriately.

But you're voting for old and slow, so what's your problem? :D

Legal tactic from a constitutional lawyer running for president. At what point will he grow balls? And it's not what-would-palin-do, it's what Obama did. Hypothetical argument? you betcha.

There are two choices. An old infirm man at the end of his life and a young, man at the beginning of his political life.

As I have said before it is about compromise. If McCain had chosen someone qualified to take his place in the event he could not continue the choice would be harder. Palin makes it (for me) a no brainer.
