Exactly. The things put in place and the wisdom from them is all basis for us to work within and under. Becasue they didn't live in this day and age does not mean that the foundation they put in place for us does not apply today.

It is like fundamentals in sports. Even though baseball is a very different game today than it was 100 years ago the basics and fundamentals about how the sport is played are still the same.

Saying that riches need to be richer and that it will be beneficiary to poor peoples as they may end up with more crumbs is an ideology dating from the 19th century. Just as exemples. Just different realities.

there are a lot of people barely scraping by in canada, and then there are a lot of really, really rich people - I wonder what a tax break could do for the poor there? is tax cut a dirty word now, but government handouts are not?

Did anyone really think a bunch of American farmers could defeat Great Britain? Gorilla warfare for one. Look how much trouble we have in the middle east. Hit and run.

There's only one problem with that logic. In the first case, the British had very limited, not to mention, sloooow means of reinforcement, while the Colonists were employing unorthodox combat methods in areas with which they were familiar. The second is just plain bad leadership combined with never having had enough troops on the ground to well and truly occupy the cities.

The thinking that you as an individual, or even as a group of a thousand or more "well-regulated militia" soldiers, armament notwithstanding, would ever stand a chance at defending so much as an outhouse from US forces on home soil with reinforcements a short flight or drive away is the domain of backwoods "The-South-Will-Rise-Again" types. Ever notice they never try it? It isn't like they haven't had motives. They never try it because they know they would be swatted like a insect. The spooks in DC will play Patriot Games on them and that will be that.

It is kinda tough to have the world's oldest constitution of any major sovereign state... but I think it has worked well given it all.
