Haha, I applied to go to Arabic language school after my tour in Gitmo as a turkish translator. This was after I fucked my knee up and they said nope! I was shocked. Just my two cents. This is part of an evolution. Only the military doesn't have the luxury of easing into change. The fact that homosexuals will now be able to serve openly doesn't change anything. There have always been homosexuals in the military and there will continue to be regardless of the current laws. The military has, at least in recent years, a very strict stance on sexual harassment, and the policies are gender and sexual orientation blind. Meaning that the harassment that some soldiers are so sure is about to happen already has rules against it and will be handled accordingly. In my experience, the homosexuals that serve in the armed forces are not eager to harass other soldiers. Why? Because it would destroy the cohesion of the unit, and the last thing anyone needs on the battlefield is fellow soldiers that wish you weren't there. The main issue of the new policy is going to be the sluggish education of military members. Once people are exposed to the change and come to understand it, it will be a non issue much like past milestones of individual rights ie. women voting, integrating schools, and allowing women to serve in the military. I have been in the military for awhile and personally I couldn't care less if the person next to me on patrol likes tacos or hotdogs! It doesn't matter!

This military business is all a non-issue. The real one is homosexuality itself. While progressives like to state that it is self evidently good, yay for freedom, diversity and equality, nature quite clearly disagrees as it denies life. It also shapes our ideas of gender roles, propagates androgyny, and makes the decadence of a type, in this case humanity, acceptable or even celebratory.

if people could just be open and free about sexuality, the anxiety and pressure of hiding something that fundamentally defines you would be gone. i feel like everyone would be better for it. its like trying to hide the fact that you have iranian heritage, or you're roman catholic, or that you really like to drink gatorade, lest you lose your job, your pride, your dignity, or even your health and safety.

its a well-evolved philosophy to accept and appreciate a person for who they are. i wouldn't consider your archaic and hyper-judeochristian worldview to be well-evolved. homosexuality is not an 'issue'. it is a naturally occuring preference and rule of attraction. there have been homosexuals since the dawn of time in the human realm, and even in the animal realm, which would presumably only be concerned with reproduction.


but since we are well-evolved humans, i would like to point out that not everyone's purpose is life is to propagate the planet with little carbon-copies of themselves. there is already a population crisis and shit's gonna hit the fan before 2050, so honestly it'd be better if more people would just be gay, if for only the reason of population control. and often, gays adopt kids who have no one else, care for them better than hetero couples, and ultimately improve society by raising a well-adjusted and open minded person instead of just letting the poor kid enter the foster system and slip through the cracks.


by the same token, if someone is willing to take a bullet for their country and for your right to spout hateful criticisms of their lifestyle, they are ten times the person you are.
