California School sends 5 students home for wearing American Flag on Cinco de Mayo
i see nothing wrong with expressing your heritage. diversity is part of what makes a country great. some of you guys sound like white american supremacists. i fucking hate nationalists!
So? Are you saying the american flag is offensive? If they wore shirts saying "mexico is for wetbacks and spics" I could understand but just being proud to be an american isnt racist. Maybe they dont want to celebrate a fake holiday for another nation. Should i be all fucking sensitive waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles to the needs of some motherfucker that wants to celebrate the rise of the 3rd reich?
and no i am not. but come on really... do you think those kids ware american flag shirts on a regular basis? no they do not. they specifically chose the 5th to ware them to make a statement against mexican americans. again whats wrong with showing pride in ones heritage? its not like you guys get all but hurt when italians have italian flags out side there shops in new york, or irish people show of irish pride during a soccer game.
cut it out with all this nationalistic "america fuck yeah" bull shit! non of you fuckers is actually american. we are all immigrants to this place, and america is suppose to be about unity and togetherness. you guys sound like a bunch of uneducated red necks.
i do not support illegals, but i think if you are legal and pay taxis you should be able to celebrate what ever fucking holiday you want with out some fucking red neck ass holes showing up at your party waving an ameican flag trying to fuck shit up like a dumb ass.

Well, clearly you are not American with a clear lack of comprehension of how to correctly use the American English language. The last line is highly ironic though.
Once again, some of us were here before the USA was the USA. When my ancestors came, it was simply referred to as "the colonies". So STFU n00b.
the way i look at it, there's nothing wrong with showing pride for one's country and wearing the american flag. but when you choose cinco de mayo to get decked out head to toe in american flag shit, it's not only a distraction in class but it sends a negative message towards mexican americans. that school was made up of mostly mexicans and the administration feared a backlash (and got one with the walkout the next day) and removed the students from class. what it seems a lot of you fail to see is that these dudes weren't kids that showed pride for their country every day, these were a couple of smartass punks trying to stir shit up and get their asses kicked.
call me liberal all you want, i would be saying the same thing if a bunch of mexicans got decked out in their shit on the 4th.
My family members fought and died for this country and I would do the same. I'm as American as it gets unlike those brown illegal waffleswaffleswaffleswaffless running California.

Dear Editor:
So many letter writers have based their arguments on how this land is made up of immigrants. Ernie Lujan for one, suggests we should tear down the Statue of Liberty because the people now in question aren't being treated the same as those who passed through Ellis Island and other ports of entry.
Maybe we should turn to our history books and point out to people
like Mr. Lujan why today's American is not willing to accept
this new kind of immigrant any longer. Back in 1900 when
there was a rush from all areas of Europe to come to the
United States, people had to get off a ship and stand in a
long line in New York and be documented. Some would even get
down on their hands and knees and kiss the ground. They made
a pledge to uphold the laws and support their new country in
good and bad times. They made learning English a primary
rule in their new American households and some even changed
their names to blend in with their new home.
They had waved good bye to their birth place to give their
children a new life and did everything in their power to
help their children assimilate into one culture. Nothing was
handed to them. No free lunches, no welfare, no labor laws
to protect them. All they had were the skills and craftsmanship
they had brought with them to trade for a future of prosperity.
Most of their children came of age when World War II broke out.
My father fought along side men whose parents had come
straight over from Germany, Italy, France and Japan. None
of these 1st generation Americans ever gave any thought
about what country their parents had come from. They were
Americans fighting Hitler, Mussolini and the Emperor of
Japan. They were defending the United States of America as
one people.
When we liberated France, no one in those villages were looking
for the French-American or the German American or the Irish
American. The people of France saw only Americans. And we
carried one flag that represented one country. Not one of
those immigrant sons would have thought about picking up
another country's flag and waving it to represent who they
were. It would have been a disgrace to their parents who had
sacrificed so much to be here. These immigrants truly knew
what it meant to be an American. They stirred the melting
pot into one red, white and blue bowl.
And here we are with a new kind of immigrant who wants the same
rights and privileges. Only they want to achieve it by
playing with a different set of rules, one that includes the
entitlement card and a guarantee of being faithful to their
mother country. I'm sorry, that's not what being an American
is all about. I believe that the immigrants who landed on
Ellis Island in the early 1900's deserve better than that
for all the toil, hard work and sacrifice in raising future
generations to create a land that has become a beacon for
those legally searching for a better life. I think they
would be appalled that they are being used as an example by
those waving foreign country flags.
And for that suggestion about taking down the Statue of Liberty,
it happens to mean a lot to the citizens who are voting on
the immigration bill. I wouldn't start talking about
dismantling the United States just yet.

Although you are most likely right about the 5 students wanting to do this just to make a statement, I think this is bedsides the point. In America you can dress how ever you like. I understand at school you can't have distractions, and that administrators want to prevent possible violence, but an entire day dedicated to wearing the mexican flag painted or otherwise is just as much if not more of a distraction then anything that would normally go on, and is on a school wide basis.
we are all immigrants to this place, and america is suppose to be about unity and togetherness.
Yet on cinco de mayo the entire point is for people of mexican heratige to seperate and show their pride. By doing this they are completley cutting themselves off from normal American "togetherness."
you guys sound like a bunch of uneducated red necks.

Again, I feel your argument is flawed. Why is it ok for Mexicans to show their pride, but not ok for Americans even if it is suposedly on "their day"? And by the way, Mexicans use many more days and oportunites to show their heritage, its definatley not just limited to Cinco de Mayo, so why should 5 American students feel the need to limit how they celebrate?
So lets pretend the vice principle (wrong as he was) didn't get involved, and the 5 dudes sitting at a table by themselves got their asses beat to a pulp, what would the argument be? "Illegal immigrants beat poor harmless American flag holding children at a lunch table for no reason at all?"
German Dude and the waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles fellow: STFU Like heeter has said some of our families date back long before the USA was anymore than Distant European colonies. Both sides of my family have been here for over 300 years.
What's your point? My fathers lineage traces back to 1539 where our ancestors came and robbed/raped/pillaged/destroyed a whole bunch of people and their homes. Then they called it America. Skip forward a few hundred years years and our lineage is now part Chiricahua Apache who as we all know were fighting against another set of invaders who called themselves American. Way to be butt-hurt.
what the FUCK is a mexican american. your either AMERICAN (FUCK YEA!) or mexican.
cinco de mayo is a Mexican holiday. celebrate it in mexico.
Considering that Mexico is part of the AMERICAS, they can call themselves Mexican, American, or Mexican American. This probably isn't an acceptable response though, right?
My family members fought and died for this country and I would do the same. I'm as American as it gets unlike those brown illegal waffleswaffleswaffleswaffless running California.
Nice racist flare to that extremely tired excuse/argument. Go and fight if you want to fight. I'm sure the minute men are hiring as well.
yes you can. just like in america there's freedom of speech. but in school, you'll very quickly be suspended for cursing out a teacher or student. it's not like these kids were locked up for wearing the flag. they were sent to the office after being asked to remove the bandannas and turn the shirts inside out. why? because anyone with half a brain knows that these kids weren't rocking the flag to show their patriotism, they were using it to send, as i've stated before, a negative message to the hispanic students.

Good point, and youre probably right, but theres only one problem with that. If theyre going to american school, payed for by american taxes, theyre not mexican. Theyre american. I understand why this has caused a stink now that i think about it. Theres wayy too much foreign pride in this country- to the point where you'd think we had it bad here. You should be able to celebrate your native country's holiday and wear whatever you want. but for gods sake, take the foreign flag off of your rear-view. This country has treated you too well.
just because someone is rocking their native flag on their rear view doesn't mean they don't love this country as well, it just means they love their native country just as much. i don't see anything wrong with that, but to each his own.
So lets pretend the vice principle (wrong as he was) didn't get involved, and the 5 dudes sitting at a table by themselves got their asses beat to a pulp, what would the argument be? "Illegal immigrants beat poor harmless American flag holding children at a lunch table for no reason at all?"
Why on God's green earth would they be beaten to a pulp? For purposely wearing an American flag on Cinco de Mayo? You can't be serious. It's not like they were wearing something anti-Mexico, and even if they were, does that warrant violence?
Considering that Mexico is part of the AMERICAS, they can call themselves Mexican, American, or Mexican American. This probably isn't an acceptable response though, right?
What'd you do for St. Patricks Day?
No your either Mexican or American.
i got sloppy drunk for st pats, just like i did for cinco de drinko. why? because their both jokes and a excuse to dress up funny.
