Comparing a "White it Right" shirt to the nations flag is not even close to the same thing. Thats out right racism and asking for a justified ass kicking. The nations flag is a symbol of everyone thats here personal freedom. BIG FUCKING DIFFERENCE

This is not a debate over legality of just because I can, this about the fundamental core beliefs of the citizens of this nation.

I guess you just cant put 2 and 2 together. It dose not matter what holiday it is in some other country, we dont live some other country this incident did not happen in some other country it HAPPENED IN THE USA.

Why do I have to keep repeating myself
It does matter what holiday it is in some other country when your country chooses to recognize it as well, such as with Cinco de Mayo. Lose the ridiculous MY WAY OR THE HIGHWAY attitude, it's making you sound really blind and pathetic. Being an American might have a completely different meaning to you, but that doesn't make it the only meaning.

I'm not saying the American flag is racist even in the slightest. I'm saying consider your surroundings and try respecting others before you go around with your stupid bullhorn telling everybody to fuck off.

      Tool!

They should respect the country they currently reside in. I would not expect to go to Canada and jump around with the American flag demanding the quality of life Canada enjoys at Canada's expense!
Build your own dreams, or someone else will hire you to build theirs!

If Canada had a recognized jump-around-with-the-American-flag-day you'd be fully welcomed to do so. Encouraged, actually. And I wouldn't even feel obligated to crash your party with a Canada hockey jersey on.

I'm not talking about any deeper issues here. I'm talking about 5 boys who were seeking attention at a Californian school on May 5th, 2010.

Dude......You drew a similarity of wearing an American flag t-shirt to wearing a racist shirt. You're absolutely insinuating that it is racist/offensive. I understand the point you trying to make, but you could've used a different analogy.

I have a question for you tho, what does being an American mean to YOU? I'm really curious to know. May be we could both find a common ground.

A lot of you here seem to think you are making good points here, but you aren't. It's simple they were trying to stir things up. Who cares. I went to a largely Latino school, and I guarantee there were 50 students wearing Mexican flags that day. Sure they American flag kids would probably get beat up, but i think they realized this, and if they wanted to stand up for their country, by all means let them.

All you Latino idiots need to remember something too. Your people have fought and died for the same flag they were wearing, and if you don't respect that I hope you burn in hell.

Guys, that's not the point, 90% of the schools in California are largly latino schools. Just because the country that you immigrated from has a holiday, does not mean I'm not aloud to wear a garment bearing the flag of the country in which "we" both reside in at that specific moment. This is BS.

And more over, here's a question for those that seem to be close enough to the situation as to throw "they were OBVIOUSLY there to stir up shit!!" comments... how do you know?

I went to a Latino populated school. On Cinco De Mayo my buddy, who only had American flag shirts in some form or another. Was this stiring the shit storm? I'm not sure why so many Mexicans would be insulted. Who cares? The day's not about your flag or anything else. It's about celebrating your heritage. You're American. So celebrate. Use that liberty and freedom for Cinco De Mayo all you want. Getting bent out of shape because some kids, not the majority, wore some American flags is silly. Let's even say they were making a statement with wearing 'em. Again, who gives a flying fuck? It's already recognized on a national level by the American people and Government to be a "special" day to celebrate the Mexican/Latino Heritage. You want EVERYONE to have to agree with your "special" day? A day that doesn't even get you out of school? To go further than celebrating, is stupid. To make it into a "OH LOOK AT THE GRINGO WEARING THE AMERICAN FLAG ON OUR DAY!! LETS GET HIM!" hurts every Mexican/Latino's case in this country. Maybe, we should just be people and stop focusing EITHER direction on what the color of our skin is or the geography we've "originated" from.

For the record, I'm everything. Literally. Irish, English, Chinese, Japanese, Hawaiian, Native American (Cherokee), German, a tiny Italian and Spanish to name a few off the top of my head... So, color means little as does geography.

The fact that some of you think it was OK to send the kids home is mind boggling..

I know its been said about 48 times, but this is AMERICA. You shouldn't be sent home for wearing the flag, or any other American apparel, even if it is a Mexican holiday. How many mexican students would be sent home on July 4th for wearing mexican colors on their shirts? I'm guessing about 0, because everyone would be too afraid of "offending" them.
The girl in the quote above saying she was "offended" needs to be slapped around a little bit. If she doesn't know where the fuck she is she should go back home, to Mexico. There she won't have to worry about seeing that nasty American Flag!

This thread has been disappointing. You're in America, the best god damn country god has ever given man. You all need a good dose of military service to understand what you have and where you live. Go spew your liberal self righteous bullshit right in the face of a mother who lost her son fighting for your freedom. I hope you all get what you deserve which is an IED right to your fucking face.

WTF!!! This is not the country falling apart, this is the act of a couple of stupid school officials! Cooler and smarter people intervened and corrected the situation. The kids weren't suspended, and everyone is happy now.

Talk about making a mountain out of a mole hill. This is what today's media is all about now. Sensationalizing the mundane. There is ZERO story here.

                            The irony here is...

United States Code Title 4 Chapter 1 — The Flag

                            ยง8. Respect for flag

No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, State flags, and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor.

                            1. The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.
                            2. The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.
                            3. The flag should never be carried flat or horizontally, but always aloft and free.
                            4. The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery. It should never be festooned, drawn back, nor up, in folds, but always allowed to fall free. Bunting of blue, white, and red, always arranged with the blue above, the white in the middle, and the red below, should be used for covering a speaker's desk, draping the front of the platform, and for decoration in general.
                            5. The flag should never be fastened, displayed, used, or stored in such a manner as to permit it to be easily torn, soiled, or damaged in any way.
                            6. The flag should never be used as a covering for a ceiling.
                            7. The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature.
                            8. The flag should never be used as a receptacle for receiving, holding, carrying, or delivering anything.
                            9. The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever. It should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions or handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkins or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discard. Advertising signs should not be fastened to a staff or halyard from which the flag is flown.
                            10. No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform. However, a flag patch may be affixed to the uniform of military personnel, firemen, policemen, and members of patriotic organizations. The flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing. Therefore, the lapel flag pin being a replica, should be worn on the left lapel near the heart.
                            11. The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning
