I absolutely agree with you and someone else who also stated that no job is below you, or me, or anybody. But it´s not only the low wages, you also have the conditions these people live in at the picking fields. You wouldn´t want a stray dog to live like that. Osha or the department of labor are fairy tales there. And there´s the abuses, the scorching sun day after day...Yeah, we all can SAY we´d do it if it´s what it takes, but I still see no massive flooding of the picking fields by US citizens so hardly hit by the economy. These people we find so easily reasons to hate on, they´ve been doing it for years (and I don´t hear them complaining, have you?) so you and me can eat strawberries (yum yum) at affordable prices. But hey, that´s Ok, as long as strawberries are still 2 bucks or less a pound it will be only THEIR suffering, right?

I´m not justifying their presence here. If you come to this country illegally there should be consequences for the risk you took, and everybody should be held accountable for their actions or lack of them. Everybody agrees on that, I think. My point was that you were arriving to conclusions based on ....what? the looks of people? their skin color? the language they speak?
On a somewhat different note, here, some hospitals have separate ER rooms for children. I don´t know about Cali. But here and there many people living here illegally have children or other relatives that are US citizens. How can you tell them apart? The very aunt of president Obama is (or was, not too long ago) illegally in the US. I´ve been countless times to the ER unfortunately, and it doesn´t bother me less or more if all the people in front of me are white, black, asian or hispanic. I don´t see why it should, I still have to wait the same. Heck, sometimes there´s only one or two people in front of me and I still have to wait a couple hours before being seen. Besides, since we are so pro-law enforcement, let´s be reminded the laws prohibit hospital ERs to deny treatment to ANYBODY, they just have to treat you until your condition is stable or there´s nothing else they can do, and this is like that all around the world, thank God. Some states/countries pick up those costs, others send you the bill. These are just some of the multiple instances that allow us to see how badly the immigration system needs to be overhauled. Glad to see that we can respecfully share our points of view, wether they´re similar or not.

On my way to work there´s a guy panhandling every single day at the same intersection. I don´t know how many hours he has to stand there, but whatever amount it is he make$, can´t be that bad, or he would have stopped doing it. He´s been there since I can remember (I´ve been working there for over a year) while some of us have to actually work to earn money. But I kind of like him, he always waves at people and stuff. There was another one that would do the same near a big Wal-Mart. One day I saw him arrive in a car nicer than mine (I mean, newer and stuff, no ride is nicer than an e30), change into his raggedy-panhandling clothes and "go to work" standing at his usual spot. He didn´t last there long, though.
