    why the hypocrisy?

People get all bent out of shape over gun rights (government telling you what to do, and I agree mostly)

then they don't give a crap when the government wants to force people to make a pledge that they don't believe in, even when the constitution and bill of rights pretty clearly forbids such a thing?

yeesh, so much bickering about something so stupid. If this bill really is what the (obviously biased) article states it is, then yes, it is utterly ridiculous, unfair, condescending, bad to a point of hilarity, and will never go through.

      There, end of argument!

The rest is just more of the same arguing that goes on all over this subforum regarding religious beliefs (or lack thereof).

FYI they can remove the "Under god" thing for all I care( and think it should be), that was put in the Pledge in the 50's under the Eisenhower administration IIRC and was not part of the "original" pledge. I dont think I said anything about FORCING the reciting of the pledge?? if a family wished to have their child abstain form it then that's just fine.

When I was a Kid we had to say the pledge every day I just never said the Under god part. The rest still holds true,

Why should I have to recite the pledge every day? Does it only apply for 24 hours before needing a booster shot?

except back when I was like in kindergarten I can't ever remember anybody telling me I had to do it (pledge). When i was kindergarten it was more about teaching me to mind the teacher rather than addressing the pledge. Its like going to a game and everyone takes off their hat during the national anthem except you, its your choice, yeah you u may feel out place but get over it. I don't care either way but I wish the we would quit whining about shit to protect the few cry babies that get all bent up cause something isn't the want they want it.

I don't believe in any god and I don't see saying the pledge of allegiance as a statement of faith. It's a tradition and a statement of your patriotism. What's wrong with that? You are lucky to live here, and despite whatever political issues that we may have at any given time, it's a hell of a lot worse in other parts of the world. I see it as a small token of gratitude for all of the things that we have available to us in this country. Things that so many of us take for granted.

did you read the article? the whole thing is about FORCING students to say the pledge with UNDER GOD or not graduate.

If you want me to pledge allegiance under god because it makes your dick seem bigger or whatever, thats fine. I don't have a problem with your bloated ego. Keep in mind that the the whole god thing is meaningless to me. Your god can go fuck himself for all I care, its about as real as mickey mouse and the tooth ferry. So if you want to force people into a meaningless pledge go right ahead.

I remember when I was 15. Thanks for continuing the stereotype of non-theists being arrogant pricks.
