Moved from WA to VA for one year of high school. I went from having average grades in WA to having the highest grade in almost every class without even trying. I couldn't even believe some of the things the other students would say/ask.

SRSLY. I live here. Education system sucks, but I'd say it's better than inner city schools anywhere. Hell, the city schools here are the WORST in the area. Gang activity in the ELEMENTARY school.....

Not sayin' but I'm just sayin'....

I've seen so many science articles where the comments are "science is full of shit" and "what a waste of money". When they are using the internet, computers, GPS navigation, uh, pretty much everything we have today is because of science.. yeah, what a waste!
But that's only because jebus taught the scientists how to make stuff.

Most Americans express at least a passing interest in news about science, with 35% saying they enjoy keeping up with science news “a lot” and another 41%

Poor people (presumably more often in poor townships with poorer schools) did a lot worse than people who are better off.

Geographically, the South did worse than West or Northeast.

Towards nando: Now, general education may be different than say specific views about particular topics that may have been founded on biased sources, such as the anti-vaccine crowd which subject their well-off children to risks of diseases long controlled in developed societies by choice and Bill Gates is working to empower poorer nations to be able to do what we take for granted and some abstain from here. Same with political attacks of scientific funding to study worm sex - it is specific ignorance not general science knowledge but still harmful to society.

Usually when people attack research based upon political stances, I think:

How can results from a survey be a theory?
