maybe they did. Do you think for even a second, the us (or any other superpower) would release the fact that they have real time adaptable/positionable sat imaging that can pinpoint a wayward airliner.
For all we know, there are even demands, that are so large, that the public is not being informed, do you ever see a live update on hostage negotiations? Nope.2011 1M Alpine white/black

If it's public release that DARPA has this, I'm pretty sure that the US has better tech on their CLASSIFIED spy satellites. And, it's not like they don't have many sets of eyes trained in this portion of the world. Not to mention all the drone work being performed in Seychelles. I'm sorry you think otherwise. I'm gonna say the US knows exactly what happened, why else would they decide to call off the surface SAR and switch to air based platforms tomorrow if USS Kidd finds nothing. They know.
The USS Kidd is ending its search for the missing Malaysia Airlines jet in a few days, Defense Department officials said today.
I wanted to make sure and find an acceptable news source for you, hope I did ok.
Also,
Analysts believe that the United States spends more money on military and intelligence space operations than on civilian space efforts.Last edited by Farbin Kaiber; 03-17-2014, 05:41 PM.Comment

^Or you know you are not looking in the correct place and it's wagging the dog, and the task has been completed.
If you can see more from the air than from land/sea, then why send boats in the first place. That would make no sense if you are trying to rescue potentially living survivors, why send boats in instead of your aircraft and orbiting assets?
Exactly.Comment

Because the plane is at the bottom of a fucking ocean and they don't know where exactly.
There was never a distress signal so its really unlikely anyone was looking for or at or near the 777.
Taking the ship out of the search is merely admission that no one has a clue.2011 1M Alpine white/black

With the reports stating that the 01:07AM ACARS report had both the current and next waypoint within it, and by that information, indicated the flight plan had been changed by someone onboard.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but these ACARS messages are akin to a short text message or a tweet, why did it take almost ten days to disclose that fact?Comment

^I understand it's a privilege and not a right to have access to the info, what I'm saying is that is a pretty important factoid.
Your link says a mile back and above, and I'm hearing from other pilots that even within 100ft offset back and 500ft below, two distinct blips would show.
(EDIT:So does the article, with a different explaination.)Comment
