Here are the facts: nothing has meaningfully changed. Yes, other reports stated that if this proposal passes, it will be illegal to tamper with or remove emissions equipment from model-year 2018 and later road-going cars, pickups, and light-duty vehicles, even when converted solely for use on a racetrack. But this is the case now; there's just no federal enforcement.Comment

Wake up, shower, grab expensive coffee on the way to work, go home, turn on TV, sleep, repeat.
No pew pew, no vroom vroom, no speaking your mind if it might "offend" someone.
"Offend" what the fuck does that even mean? I can't remember the last time I was "offended" by anything. Oh wait, that's right, because I am who I am and don't give a shit if someone says anything against me or my thoughts. Though I am very open to criticism, so don't take that last part wrong. No E30 ClubOriginally posted by MrBurgundyAnyways, mustangs are gay and mini vans are faster than your car, you just have to deal with that.Comment

I work in the industry as well, and the people I know with the most to lose don't seem afraid of this at all.
I obviously don't support such restrictions on cars and racing, but at the same time I feel I don't have a dog in this fight since I was already priced out of personal involvement in motorsports a long time ago and am desperately seeking to move away from cars and into a better-paying industry ASAP. I feel like racing was once accessible to regular folks, but has in the last of couple decades been turned into something only the privileged can afford to participate in, and its sad that something like this can come along and make racing even less accessible as a hobby.
I've never owned a car newer than 1998, at my age I'll be dead before I can own anything new enough for this to effect me anyway. :)sigpic

So. Here's what freaks me out about this. What is going to happen to all the people who have literally put their life work into this industry. It's been sort of covered, but past "putting them out of business" what does that mean for the economy overall. Clearly it's a massive industry, not only people that work directly in it. People making parts ect. There's media coverage, car and driver, road and track, multiple large YouTube channels in the form of digital media. All of these people would be screwed out of a job, a lifestyle that they have become accustomed to after years of dedication. It's truly frightening to see how disconnected and delusional some of these politicians are. Using politicians very loosely but there's definitely a political reason they are doing this without a doubt in my mind. They will soon realize how fucked they are if this really does pass. I think if there's not already a shitstorm by the IDEA of this being a reality, it will be one when it does become our unfortunate reality. What happened to when people were able to live their lives, doing what they love. Are a few racecars and people with Haltech ECU's really going to ruin the world any faster than anything else on a much larger scale like coal burning facilities, battery disposal and nuclear plant waste disposal? Honestly they should be looking to those industries, but the thing is whoever said it's about CONTROL is extremely right. It's not about the environment, those guys at the EPA couldn't give any less of a fuck about any of it. Maybe the lowlife interns that still buy into the "The EPA saves the world one old car at a time!" bullshit but anyone at the top of the food chain isn't really there for that.

I think the actual consequences of this proposed change in regulation may be a little overblown in the car enthusiast community. Yes, I signed the petition and no I don't support this EPA action, but there seems to be a lot of fear mongering and jumping to conclusions that just aren't supported by the facts. Don't be a band-wagoner and fall for hype and misinformation, be skeptical.
You'd better be vigilant in general of the laws and rules being proposed concerning things you enjoy which are no longer politically correct. Big legislative changes like this attract a lot of fire, but smaller things can fly under the radar and chip away unnoticed. Just like it isn't politically correct to have guns and like shooting anymore, it isn't politically correct to take part in this hobby, which is not environmentally friendly, safe or sensitive, so expect it to be attacked and eroded.Comment

HOWEVER, you may still rejoice in the facts that obama is still trying to take your guns, make you quarter Muslim immigrants in your home and appoint Adolf Hitlers charred remains as a supreme court justice.Comment

EPA trying to outlaw legal racing.
How effective would this revision be? Looking at previous attempts at completely outlawing something (Intolerable Acts or Prohibition for example) I have a feeling they may have an issue enforcing this. Am I mistaken? The thing I don't get, however, is at least the Intolerable Acts and Prohibition had a gradual lead up to the extreme, but the ban of race cars seemed out of the blue.Last edited by Griff_; 03-04-2016, 11:13 AM.Comment
