Yes, I understand that. I also understand that it's safe to overfill an S52 with E34 oil pan past 6.1 quarts as the engine has the capacity hold up to 7 safely even with E34 oil pan; autocrossers/track guys do it all the time. And M50/S50 series is known to burn oil usually.
I'd say it'd be more dangerous to just do 6.1 quarts due to oil burning. Even with 7 quarts of oil you can measure it out and it's not overfilled to an unacceptable level. 8 quarts on the other hand...
I worked at the shop that built Deathroll's car for 4 years. I also owned a S50 swapped E30 for over 4 years. I always filled with 6 quarts. My S50 did not burn oil and neither does the S52 in my M3. I would hardly consider it "normal" for ANY engine to burn oil. Maybe a 200k+ M20... You can't say the S52 engine "has the capacity" to hold 7 quarts of oil when the OIL PAN is what decides the engine's oil capacity. I'll go ahead and keep doing things my way, I'm new to this.
