Need some advice, it looks like my alternator took a dump, how do I get another one? Does r3v have a consensus for buying New Rebuilt, straight junkyard? My car is a 91 318is. Should I shoot for 80 or 90 amp?
anyone have one for sale locally? Suggestions appreciated as I'm at work and can't do much until I'm home.

I sell these every day and would say that overall they are hit and miss. Some of them last forever and some take a dump within a month of service. Autozone is pretty easy with their lifetime warranties if you do get a bad unit, however you have to consider that 99% of the stores do not carry them in stock making them a 2+ day out special order. Also even though the lifetime warranty is nice, it may not be that attractive to someone who doesn't like to potentially change their alternator every so often (even though on an m42 alternator swaps are cake).

I bought a Reman Bosch Unit about 4 years ago and had it die within a year (m42), but I've had its identical replacement for the last 3 years with no issues so who knows! :p

What part died? I think you can replace the brushes and rectifier yourself.

It started crapping out 4am this morning on the way to work.
I didnt get home until 5pm. As of now Im limited on time I have to trouble shoot, so im just going to replace it. thanks for the suggestion.

I was afraid of the hit or miss scenarios @ Vatozone. Previously i had much more extra time to wrench on the car, now I work overtime constantly and have a newborn so changing out parts more than once is a buzzkill.
Lucky Me, my Father removed it and searched for a replacement while I was at work. I should have the remanufactured or New installed tomorrow Im unsure which I will end up going with. I have a #1 DAD and I bet when I get home he will have it all swapped out cause he cool like that. Either way it does seem simple to remove/replace so I should still have some sunlight to get it done after work.

50?? Remember that the colors of the stickers matter too, if theyre bright colored and catch alot of attention youre looking at a good 75!

One of them is reflective. Depending on the angle, it's like a fucking rainbow. When the sun heats it, it reduces drag on the car. The only reason I don't cover the whole car in those stickers is because if I'm too reflective, I might become invisible and cars would run into me.

Good morning SoCal !!!!!! Well looks like i'm going to be starting a new job in the next few weeks and its going to be the same thing im doing now but alittle less hours,way closer to home,more time off and of course..........800.00 dollars more a month to start. Feel like shit leaving the shop i have been with for 21 years though. But i have to put myself first and i haven't been doing that.
