            I always used the 2 old pads and, wedged a big screwdriver to push the caliper back.

              Today I have installed M50 injectors, and attempted to install a chip in my 153 ECU. I feel like I'm going to break the damn thing, so I go online to look for tutorials, and then I start seeing all this stuff about how the 173 is better and a plug-n-play swap;

              who can attest to this? I'm just going to pop in the 153 back in as is.

                Could it be possible that the 153 you have is one of the oddballs that has the chip soldered to the board?

                I have 2 173 ecus and I destroyed one because the chip was soldered to the board.

                  I didn't get as far as to looking at the chip; it's the dual-board design, in which I had to push in tabs to push out the top board. It didn't feel right so I stopped. But now I'm thinking there's no point in opening it if the 173 will solve my idle issue, like people said it would.
