To my defense I fixed my m20 with a blown head stud with little help.
I took it apart, extracted the broken stud, got the head machined flat, put it back together, and drove the car.
I failed to get the head pressure checked and that's where I went wrong.
But I did even disassemble, clean, and refresh the whole head myself.

questions, kronus:
- no way to keep the m42 rad? i like my m42 rad and its integrated expansion tank :(
- last time i read a FAQ on the m30 swap as well, i don't remember reading anything about having to cut and weld the shift arms. is there an e30 tranny you can use with that removable bellhousing?
- am i seriously retarded for wanting to keep my 4.10? i <3 short gearing, even with stump-pulling engines.
You can use the M30 260/6 transmission along with E30 M20 shifter parts. The 265 trans will work as well. There is an OEM adapter (that the E30 M3 used) that will allow you to attach the aluminum shift carrier to it. This trans would also use M20 carrier and selector rod.
Yes a 4.10 will be ridiculous. I'd recommend 3.25, 3.46, or maybe 3.64.

Matt, do not need those bottlecaps anymore! Thanks.
I wish I knew what different diff ratios felt like. I have only had 2.93's. On my b27 and b25. lol. Let's just say I like driving the freeways and hate around town.
I saw that 535i you guys are reffering to that is for sale. If I had the money I would buy it, that car is definitely worth $1000. 17x8 stye fives, five speed trans with b35 that has a rebuilt head. hell yeah. I would definitely go through most of that motor before I swapped it in though.

DK I would get the 260 trans they are prob the most durable and super cheap its kind of the m30 of transmissions...and they go on m30s :-)
You can also use the m3 shift carrier adapter on the 260Last edited by bastianshaw; 05-10-2014, 04:07 AM.
