If you don't mind the comparable lack of power, the M42's a great motor. Have you driven a coupe? (2 door sedan, whatever)

The E46 is a great handling car, you just have to get used to driving an E46 as coming from an E30 it is a bit foreign. But you can definitely feel that they're much heavier.

I'm racking my brains but I actually don't think I've ever driven an e30 with a roof. I've driven Eric's vert, Ray's M3 vert (greatest e30 of all time imo), and been in quite a few coupes but I don't believe I've ever driven them. I wanna look into more chassis reinforcements for my vert because I got the raceskids x-brace that everyone raves about and says it's a night and day difference for a convertible...and honestly I didn't notice it way too much. It still creaks a bit pulling onto my driveway.

I have school all day, go to the gym everyday for 2 hours, and have 2-4 hours of homework/studying a day and manage to get stuff done on my car.

I mean it really does not take that long to disconnect a battery, and then remove a starter.

My buddy got an x brace and strut tower bar for his e36 and thinks it is a race car now.

Welp, I'd think an M42 vert would be a bit gutless and not as well balanced as an E46M so it's rather likely just the familiarity aspect that has you liking the vert more handling wise. A 318is or... any well-setup E30 with a roof would probably be a better car to drive than the vert. You may want to get some more seat time in the E46 before you write it off completely. I said get what you like, but that doesn't mean stick with what you're familiar with and don't give anything else a chance. The S54 is a fucking glorious motor.

Sup Sina. I agree Nate. I haven't driven it enough. I bet if i burned through a tank of gas on that thing I'd be itching to trade my e30, but I have no intentions of doing that. I wouldn't call it unbalanced, really. E30 converts have better weight balance because theres more weight in the back, and my car's about 51/49. But yeah the m42 is slow as balls and that'll have to change eventually.


Oh and Marco: I'm not asking about anything at all. We're just talking about e46's.
