What's the DMV status of the vehicle?

If your tags are out, get them current NOW or you are gonna pay a similar amount to DMV. Then go to court with your shit squared away; judges like hearing "I've already corrected the mistake, YH." and are sometimes lenient.

If it's PNO... you may have to suck it up and pay the man, because it's not supposed to be on public roads and there isn't much room to claim you don't know that.

Dude, I'm -unemployed-, for almost half a year now, and I scraped together $500 to get myself and my car legal again.
