the # rating is the pounds of fuel delivered per hour at 100% duty cycle at a specified rail pressure. normally injectors are operating at some % of full duty, so they will be open for ex. 25%, closed for 75%, and vibrating rapidly between open/closed to release an accurate amount of fuel.

If your engine is ingesting more air than the injectors can compensate for by increasing duty cycle, you need bigger injectors. some shadetree mechanic types like to put in bigger injectors and wangle with the AFM to trick the engine into having a bit more power, but you pretty much need a tune if you don't want the car to run horribly.

in the Bosch world, color is used as an easy identifier of what injector you're looking at, but it's really best to go from the Bosch PN.

you'll find flow ratings in either lb/hr or cc/min- if you have one and need the other, there are calculators online.

pay attention to whether you have high- or low-impedance injectors, and make sure you buy the same. (etas and M3s are low-impedance, all other e30s are high.)

the more modern type 3 injectors from Bosch are arguably an upgrade even at the same flow rate, because they're a 4-pintle (the pintle being the hole the fuel sprays out of) and atomize better, but i wouldn't necessarily recommend you run out and spend your money just to get that unless you are sure your current injectors are on the way out (which is not that likely).

if you've done a lot of upgrades that increase flow (for instance, i had to go all the way from 19lb/hr to 24lb/hr, and bump the rail pressure with an adjustable FPR, to get the fuel tune right on my ITBs), then you're ready to spend money on them.

i would really recommend you get a wideband before you start playing with fuel tuning- without one you're at best guessing at your AFR.

      that's the basics.

so i got the job in ATL.

but they want me to work remotely from CA.

kinda shocked at how well it panned out.

taking a much-needed vacation next week.
