hunting carmax because of their awesome warranty program (there's a jalopnik series about a guy doing this with a range rover, google "jalopnik carmax warranty").
found a white genesis coupe, turbo, track package, 43k miles yesterday, for under the $20k budget.
would be nice to have a smog-legal boosted car with a warranty.Last edited by decay; 06-12-2014, 12:48 PM.past:

An M42 should pass without any problem. If you're close to passing, the cheap tricks will work but if it's far away from the pass threshold, you need to actually fix the problem.
Drive the car a LOT, drive it HARD, and burn up a couple gas tanks and try again. If it still doesn't pass, then change the oil, change oil filter, change plugs, change O2s if need be, and go beat the crap out of the car on the way to the test station.
Post the results? It's easy to diagnose with the actual numbers.
CO: max 0.75 avg 0.13 measured 0.54 (passed this one)
NO: max 799 avg 238 measured 1711 (failed hard)
I'm at the DMV right now getting a moving permit since my reg is expired. I'm running CRC in the tank I filled this morning. I had driven around 50 miles the day of the test but the car had been sitting for a little bit before I actually drove to the smog place (it was the 5th one of the day because of 4 of them's BS about it being too low or other things). The first car I ever rode in was an e30
