his explanation was he has too much time and money invested in the project that he couldnt warranty it anymore and he was done investing money in a project he was losing money in...butttt isnt that part of being a "mechanic" or taking on jobs? in the end he said it was a USER ERROR why the rocker arms broke...
beware of DMS Motorsports and blueapplesoda

So you provided him the said parts, he put togehter a single stroker engine and there was a problem with the timing belt where things got broken only 3K miles after you got the car back? Now he isn't taking responsibility for it. Is that about right? That's pretty shitty."I'd probably take the E30 M3 in this case just because I love that little car, and how tanky that inline 6 is." - thecj

he built a motor from ground up...provided and changed all parts himself..motor he installed had a eta bottom end and a new machined I head and new belt hoses injectors cap wire plugs etc ...head was bad and in the process of putting motor back in didnt seat the tranny correctly and blew my original tranny BUT never even told me...i had to find out from another person that knew he did that...so he put in a junk yard tranny....drove car about 500 miles and told him it was making a non normal ticking sound almost like a bad lifter or piston...he took 2 months to find a replacement piston and when he finally found a piston and told me to just keep driving the car the junkyard tranny he installed blew a seal....when taking the motor apart once again he said the bottom end got damaged and was no good and he had to use my original eta bottom end from my car he had laying at his "shop"...he needed more money and i paid him for parts since he was upside down on the job and im a nice guy..he installed another used tranny and car drove fine...smog was due and i took it to get smogged and it failed...changed exhaust and still didnt pass...finally got it to pass and then took it to CAR B QUE ...drove it lightly for about a couple months and car broke 6 rocker arms and timing belt was off....motor junk....mechanic tore it down and said timing belt was not properly tightened..sold car...derek said USER ERROR...So you provided him the said parts, he put togehter a single stroker engine and there was a problem with the timing belt where things got broken only 3K miles after you got the car back? Now he isn't taking responsibility for it. Is that about right? That's pretty shitty.Comment

Do yourself and the community a favor and start a proper thread in the transaction feedback section. I realize you've explained the situation now in this thread but the original post simply stating "that is all" is silly.
I'm very sorry you've had to go through this. I had always considered Derek a good guy but I've been hearing so terrible stories as of late and it's really a sad thing. If there's anything we (Myster-E) can help you with to get your engine back together please let me know. We (obviously) do cylinder heads all of the time and do quite a few M20 engine builds as well.
Wish you the best!Comment

Wow, that sucks. I agree with mr325, post up a proper thread, funny thing is I think there is already one putting bluapplesoda on blast in the general discussion area.
Is there any way to maybe have a subforum in the transaction feedback thread of who should be used with caution do to shady dealings? Maybe there can be updates because people do change or sometimes they don't but it would be nice to easily see who has been shady. I know there is the search function but not all businesses are on here.Comment

And not everybody goes through the feedback threads to find negatives every time. That would be a quicker way to find the more dramatic feedbacks and would be very helpful to new buyers on here.
