anyone running high cr on pump gas here in california and not having any problems with pinging or detonation or should i get a thick ass gasket and try to bring it down a little?

The 2.1L M42 that Metric Mechanic built me has static compression of 11.5:1. I run it on 91 octane pump gas and have had zero pinging after years of revving it up to 7500RPM. This was the case both with a bone stock M42 tune, and a very much optimized custom tune from Sssquid. The compression ratio and gas are probably secondary factors after your ignition timing and fuel trims.
