So...it kills me to say this, but I just drove a very well kept E30 M3, and was utterly underwhelmed. Unless you keep it above 4500+, it is utterly gutless and surprisingly slow.

Handles more neutrally than a regular E30, but is still just as communicative. Brakes are just like a regular E30, as in they suck. But honestly, the utter lack of torque and forward progress was maddening. I like it for what it is and the history behind it, but I would hate it as DD or anything other than a "drive once a month to flog the living piss out of it" car. I can't imagine how much slower it would be at altitude.

I has a sad, the car itself rained on my E30 M3 FTW parade.

This is also making me rethink my BRZ wanting. The two cars are incredibly similar power/torque/weight/gearing-wise.

i have a complete M50nv w/ around 100k miles (or less), but I would need an M20B25 drivetrain to trade for it...

I drove one a while ago, and I was impressed with the rpms, and the power above 4500. of course it isn't fast by today's standards at all, and I didn't expect that.

Welcome to what everybody already knows.

It's really not that bad of a car to DD if you don't mind revving it out a bit more than other cars. It's also a lot better to DD when your NOT coming from a torquey E36 M3.

Also, go drive a 1988 chevy lumina, then a 1988 M3 and you'll get a better understanding of the hype.

I would like to see a comparison of a stock M3, 325is, and maybe a 318is around the same course by the same driver. I know there are differences between all three in both weight and power mainly. I think it would be interesting.

I wouldn't take away the BRZ wanting based just on specs and comparing it to an E30 M3. Drive one with coil-overs and 245's before making a good decision on it. We both know suspension setup/design has a big impact on how a car drives and feels.

aah really! I don't have any m20 parts, my car already has the m50 swap only now there is a hole in the block!

Yeah, totally. My Ex had a 01 miata and it revved so freely it was ALMOST as fun to drive as my E30 M3. I've seen a BRZ with 255 square start specs... I bet that thing is a blasty blast on an auto-x course!:eeek:

When the BRZ/FRS has another 50hp/tq I'll give it consideration. Right now, it is way too slow and underpowered for my taste. (as is an E30 M3, and a Miata, and really I guess most anything with under 300hp that has more than 2 wheels.)

So who is this guy in Parker?

He has been parting out a crap ton of E36s for a long time now, and now he is selling three E30s simultaneously.

                              The E30s:

Here is his E36 parts ads:
