Anyone know how extensive rear damage would have to be, to effect the opening of the rear passenger doors? Sounds worst than even the pictures show.

Yes, the front half of the T case differs between auto/manual. The rear is the same. I am actually in the process of rebuilding two transfer cases into one good manual one. As far as your swap, I have the G260, a pedal set, and the front diff out of a manual car (3.91). You would have to source a transfer case. Blunt can get reman'd units from BMW for like $1800 with a core deposit

Well they did mention that the damage to the rear effected opening the rear doors which I thought could have been frame damage, but I wouldn't quote me on that since I know only a little about BMW frames.
