      Not necessarily. Get the timing belt installed correctly and report back.

          I know someone who got the crank a tooth off. Bent 4 valves. FWIW. Hopefully your situation is different.

              Awesome man! It seems to be a common issue with Motronic AFMs. I've used the fix twice now, once on my '91 318i and another time on a friend's '90 325ic. In both cases the CEL light was coming on intermittently and the stomp test was pulling the AFM code.

                So the crank has to be lined up with the indent as shown in picture correct?

                  Yuss. Also check the crank pulley against the timing cover.

                    Any trick to get it to spin.. Cuz there is pressure in there. Ima take spark plugs out see if it helpsZ any other info?

                      I always just put a wrench on it and turned it. Unless your timing is so off that the valves are hitting the pistons I can't imagine you doing any damage. Be sure to check the timing at the head too though.

                            Take the spark plugs out and it will turn much easier. After you reinstall the belt, rotate the motor several times to make sure everything still is lined up.

                              Alright got it on now. Spun it around. It comes back in line. Last time I put it on... It didn't wanna go on.. So instead f looking why .. I just moved it a tooth over an she went on.. This time I found the reason it didn't go on.... Tightened the tb there and slipped it on. I already know this is going to pay off if all my bales are good! Yay!
